I have been working at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Leaders are very positive and cheerful.
    Cheerful workplace.
Team Members can easily befriend others
    Very good flexibility hours
     Open minded

    Cons

Little chance to improve skills and change to other work areas within the store.
Some GSTL and ETL feel empowered they sometimes misuse their authority.
Because of their authority they seem above those who are below their tittle and subconsciously belittle other team members

    Advice to Management

Remind ETLs and GSTL to be inclusive and not to belittle others regardless of their title.

    Cons

    - It's retail, so the pay obviously
    - Management is just as disinterested as the rest of us, so improvements take a lot of nagging
    - My downtown location has a lot of security issues

    Advice to Management

    Put security in Starbucks

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The team can be the best part of Target, depending on the store you work at.

    Cons

Leaders who think they are God and other leaders who don't seem to care.

    Advice to Management

Support your teams. Don't let them struggle and flounder, then punish them when you could have easily helped.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at Target, I worked alongside a lot of very kind coworkers who were the best resource for helping me accomplish each task. This job definitely increased my confidence in speaking with customers in passing, and improved my workplace social skills by having me approach new people in a concise, articulate, and professional way. I learned how to work more quickly and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously. Those are some of the characteristics that I have carried with me to other jobs!

    Cons

There isn't much room for growth in the company, especially if you are a team member who isn't interested in forming a close relationship with management. I found management to be out of touch with the sales floor staff, often willfully ignorant of how unrealistic and stressful their performance goals and assignments were. Furthermore, management failed to properly train new employees, making it hard to perform adequately in this fast-paced store environment.

    Advice to Management

It would be a better work environment if management were able to treat employees like the competent, capable people they are. On that note, better training and communication from management to new employees is missing, and would be a key component in improving team performance.

I have been working at Target full-time

    Pros

    - Team Development
    - Business ownership focus
    - Great culture
    - Great guest perception
    - Strong financial foundation which allows for growth
    - Growing online presence

    Cons

Work/life balance can be a challenge; changing nature of retail landscape can make the workplace frenzied at times but ultimately very manageable with good planning.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the team's work/life balance; efficiencies and priorities.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They work well around life schedules. I've always had an easy time getting time off or working around my family's schedule.

    Cons

It's hard to promote. A lot of politics involved with moving up and getting up in the company. I have seen a lot of people quit due to unfairness in the company. It's not always who is most qualified, it's who is most popular.

    Advice to Management

Be passionate about your areas and care about others too!

    I worked at Target full-time

    Pros

    -Hands-on apprehension policies
-Good way to get your foot into the door of Asset Protection/Loss Prevention
    -Warm, open-minded culture

    Cons

    -Low wage
-This position, being the lowest on the AP food chain allows for very little ability to stop theft aside from deterrence
-Ability to move up is hardly existent
    -Not really many good benefits
    -Very understaffed in AP/LP

    Advice to Management

Staff your asset protection department fully at all stores not just some, to allow theft to be stopped by much larger percentages.

    Pros

Team members were usually helpful and the idea of Target and their core concepts are good: leaders rather than managers, working together, teams and team members rather than just employees. I was also able to transfer when I moved across the country, which was a help.

    Cons

The "do more with less" mentality is horribly pervasive. Every new roll-out seemed to involve a simultaneous cut in payroll hours so suddenly our workload had been increased by a bit that was expounded by the lack of people we now had. In my particular store, back-stabbing and in-fighting was prevalent among the salaried management. The last straw for me was when one of them lied to my face about my team-member (I was a senior team lead). I was able to verify the lie on camera.

    Advice to Management

Promote working together more--vet your brand new salaried managers more carefully. Just because someone is fresh out of business school doesn't mean they're the best fit for logistics or the front lanes.
