I worked at Target full-time for more than 19 years

    Pros

Can work from home which no one really works that much at home. Good pay. Can shop at Target store easily. Not that hard of a job.

    Cons

Management Everyone including TM's feel they are entitle to everything since they work for the amazing Target. Outsiders are treated badly.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Target has a brand, a strong stores presences and does hire some good people. The offices are very well maintained.

    Cons

The leadership in the digital space have no idea what they are doing. Leaders are scope obsessed, marketing is personal portfolio obsessed and Merch thinks they decide every aspect of the business. Target hires people in the Minneapolis office and tells them they get to be innovative. Then we get to watch them out source innovation to accelerator programs, Sunnyvale, specific innovation & specific strategy teams; while...

    Advice to Management

Get your corporate culture in check and ensure you have the right people in the right positions. Throwing a innovation on top of a crumbling culture isn't going to catapult digital.

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very independent compared to other jobs in the building. Its fun to throw away garbage in the compactor. You can eat stuff for free sometimes. It's a great job to have in high school.

    Cons

Its probably your first job. You can't be late or the computer will yell at you. You have to wear the red shirt. The world doesn't have much respect for you.

    Advice to Management

Nothing! Target does a great job at hiring competent managers. Most have a degree, don't make much, but are in a structured environment that is well suited for learning.

    Pros

The team culture, wellness center at corporate location, team member discount, opportunity to change rolls every two years, work life balance.

I have been working at Target for more than a year

    Pros

Target is shifting at a rapid pace become data driven, digital first, innovative organization. Those who work hard will be given opportunities and be given the opportunities to create the Target of the future. Its an exciting time to be here. So much change in the last 2 years I can't believe it. Change for good.

    Cons

There are still remnants of the historical organizational structure that hinder speed and progress which can be frustrating. Sometimes what seems like it should take 2 weeks takes 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Keep teams small, nimble, and empowered - a lot can be done with a small group of talented people.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - There's a lot of very smart people working here. Many of them even have unique traits outside of work - They usually pay well - hot chics at 2 of the 4 buildings in downtown - great rotational program and ability to move around if you wish to do so - good benefits for the employees and the discount can get you a better discount on an iPad than an apple employee gets

    Cons

    - surprisingly broken inside. old processes still exist, disconnect among groups, passive aggressiveness of several folks - meeting heavy (although, this is now changing slowly) - Marketing (both Minneapolis and India) have a LOT of excess baggage. Swarms of useless employees who do nothing. Many of them seem to be organizing group events and happy hours full time. Big joke - Takes quite a while to climb up the ladder...

    Advice to Management

To be cool, you have to be ahead of the curve...not 5 years behind it. This will require investing quite a bit upfront. Would also be really nice to have the internal teams actually spend time and possibly invent the company's own processes to streamline operations. Your implementation of agile across the dot com teams is a great example of being way behind, using buzzwords, and actually thinking they're doing a good...

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salaries are some of the best in the Minneapolis area. You get to work with some good people (some not so good). Definitely some challenging work.

    Cons

Work-life balance doesn't really exist. Those who are promoted typically aren't getting promoted because of merit, but who they know. We're always transitioning into some new model because management decides that's the silver bullet. You spend way too much time fighting through the administrivia and bureaucracy. To get ahead you have to play the game by having statuses with higher ups. Of course, those folks are...
