I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They paid a living wage and had decent benefits, especially 401k and life insurance. Was possible to get raises.

    Cons

Slow promotion path, poor health insurance, poor to nonexistant training. Plus all the usual retail favoritism and double standards.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to turn over. One team lead can cause turn over in another team. Also pay attention to food safety and pest control!!

    Pros

I worked at Target during the 3 years that I was finishing college, and I never had a problem when I had to move my schedule around. I was working with an open schedule prior to returning to college, and then I was able to move to Fri Sat Sun, and then eventually to Sat and Sun only. I know they prefer people to have weekend availability, so im not sure how well it would work for someone who isn't able to, however, they never caused me any issues. All of my managers/supervisors were always super open and acted like they really cared about my future. I always felt like I could ask then questions, and it was honestly a great team environment. If you want to go further in the company, just ask a supervisor and im sure that they will make a plan for you to do so. There is a lot of room for advancement in this company.

    Cons

The work day can get hectic and stressful when the store becomes a mess, but it's not because of the management or other team members. The particular store that I worked in had guests that would knock everything over and make a mess, but its just part of the job. I worked Fitting Room, so I dealt with the phone calls and a lot of clothing.
Also, similar to most other retail jobs, if you are looking for consistency in hours, I would not rely on this job. While you can always pick up extra shifts if others are giving them away, they tend to be cashier shifts. During the holiday season, you will get your 40 hrs if you want it, however, in the slower seasons if the store isn't making sales, hours get cut. For example, I went from two 8 hr days to two 5 hour days. But if the team helps to push sales, your hours will increase as the store income raises.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to empower employees

    Advice to Management

-Stop trying to compete with other corporate stores. Open at 2 or 3AM on Black Friday, let your employees enjoy their Thanksgiving with their families.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Very communicative
    The location is great

    Cons

Some trucks don't come in sometimes at the most inconvenient times.
Soon we will have more devices to scan the product for the prices and or price changes in the Store.

    Advice to Management

As if now no advice to management. The only concern is to better select who will spend more time in the store. If the stock logistics position is only providing a certain amount of hours to part time workers then those who do know more than others or that have been there longer should never experience low hours or hours cut period especially if they have enough work efficiency to cover more hours maybe even full time. For an example if there are employees in the stock position who have been there for 2 to three years or more with experience they should get a better raise or more pay.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great team members
    Scheduling is very flexible
Completely different feel from other big box retailers
Very thorough training by fellow team members.

    Cons

Pay starts near the lower end of the scale
Yearly performance reviews are anything but based on performance, more based on interpersonal relationships. Sadly.

    Advice to Management

Take a more unbiased look at your employees. Just because they are young or don't have any management experience doesn't mean they aren't of greater value to the company!
