I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun. Fast past. Forced to take breaks. (I don't like to stop working) never same thing everyday was new, fun and different. Meetings recognized and rewarded good employees daily.

    Cons

Pay. Horrible pay for regular employees but they did give better raises than most corporate chains.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up.

    Pros

Diverse work community. Opportunities for cross training and other job enrichment. Weekly work schedule posted 2 weeks in advance.

    Cons

Availability of hours during off peak season. Career advancement/ full time benefits are largely contingent on being available for overnight shifts. Typical turnover issues.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only good reason to work at target, is that is shows you, you really need a degree to be something because nobody deserves to work at target.

    Cons

Underpaid and overworked, and they set unrealistic expectations for people who actually do work. They also play favoritism and rarely promote internally.

    Advice to Management

Just be better, treat the people their like you would want to be treated and not like they are your slaves who are only their to serve you.

I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team members, was kind of hard to leave since they felt like family

    Cons

NO HOURS, pay wasn't much at the start but by the time I left I was getting around 20 hours at best for two weeks, despite my ability to be in more than one department, and that location is still hiring which makes no sense if they don't have hours to give.

    Advice to Management

Give out hours equally to team members based on their schedules, and not to crank out the maximum amount of hours to "toxic" team members just because they rake in RedCards. The front end also needs to understand the trend that most RedCard owners go back to the same store they got it from, which is why the # of applicants goes down over a short amount of time...never have I felt so bad for not doing what is essentially an optional part of what your main job is.

I have been working at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very supportive upper management that is willing to take the time to aid your development. Always accessible via phone call and email

    Cons

Very low pay, PTO accumulates very slowly, not the brightest co workers. Some of the assistant managers are not the brightest folks either.

    Advice to Management

Improve compensation for skilled employees, recognize skill level of various employees and allow compensation to match this variance.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I can honestly not think of one positive thing to say about this company any longer. That is a sad commentary on the deterioration of this company from someone who once loved their job.

    Cons

    Lack of communication.
    Lack of recognition.
    Lack of accountability.
    Poor training.
    Lack of integrity.
    Hidden agendas.
    Lack of team work.
    Every man for himself.

    Advice to Management

Stop biting the hand that feeds you.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Target does a good job with the team environment, training programs, community engagement, 401k options and flexibility.

    Cons

Target could work on improving benefit options, recognition programs, performance appraisal process and increasing leadership training opportunities so that passionate team members can learn and do more without being promoted if they are not interested.

    Advice to Management

It would benefit Target to have one voice - different markets have differing processes for promotional opportunities and transfers. I tried to transfer to the Florida market having 15 years of experience with Target, excellent review scores as an executive, verbal and written referrals from my group office and was still denied after a phone interview followed by a video "meet and greet" because they wanted to give the opportunities to others in their market. My coworker successfully transferred to the California market after a phone interview with only 4 months in position and 8 months with the company. This left me feeling demoralized by a company that I loved and discriminated against.
