I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay as a visual merchandiser manager. Great benefits.

    Cons

Long hours. Short staffed. Over worked. Must be in position for 18 months before can transfer.

    Advice to Management

Be upfront about the hours required to work. I was told Monday -Friday and would work 6 days and off every other weekend. That included closing late nights.

Very labor intensive and poor work-life balance
Lots of walking, bending and hard core work. Newer managers have to work nights and weekends with no rotation

management is unorganized and doesn't care about workers (worked me full time after me telling them 3 times I can't) , rude customers and management.

    Pros

Decent starting rate an hour, flexible with scheduling for school, the employees

    Cons

Stop forcing the red card on guests.

    Advice to Management

Schedule the right amount of staff according to the day of the week, we don't need more staff on Monday than on Saturday and Sunday.

I have been working at Target full-time

    Pros

The people I work with are awesome. There is a real team culture and senior leadership is fairly well connected with team members. People are generally positive and upbeat. This is a huge change from when I first started.

    Cons

Although the minimum hourly rate has increased consistently, the pay is still not quite enough to be considered livable. Only team leaders are offered truly livable wages.

    Advice to Management

Ensure all stores have great leadership that connects well with the team. Remove abusive, burnt-out, and micromanaging leaders. Show the team you appreciate them by paying them fairly for all they do.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    +Pay
    +401K
    +Bonuses
    +Earlier Training Around Development
    +The Brand
    +Designer Collaborations
+Essence of the Store and the Buildings
    +Product Layout

    Cons

Work life balance. Promotes people too fast. Treats people in a very disposable manner. DTL in St Louis does not know how to help leaders progress through challenges. DTL plays favorites and is causing people to leave because they don't feel supported or appreciated. There is no investment in people as humans. They fire leaders based upon pay. If someone makes too much, then you are asked to fire them. There is no coaching for growth only for firing. They are running out of good talent, so Store Leaders are being promoted extremely fast. DTL is not confidential and shares extremely crucial information with her favorites.

Target used to be a great place to work. Very engaging and promising in terms of a career path. Nobody retires from the organization anymore unless they are forced to. The brand itself is appealing, but the culture is cut throat.

    Advice to Management

Read Leaders Eat Last.....Start treating employees like humans. I know it's hard during immense times or pressure, but if everyone could at least try then they would see success.

Unfortunately the company will continue to see high turnover rates. I consider Target to be a great company for training. They train them and then I recruit them.
