I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I’ve met some amazing guests that have become some amazing friends. I’m sorry, but I really can’t think of any more Pros to working here.

    Cons

If one of the ETL’s do not like you, they all do not like you. They gang up on you. It doesn’t matter how hard you work you will never get any recognition for it. If you are not a part of their clique, you are a NOBODY. They give you rules to follow as far as returns and coupon usage and then they will go against you right in front of the guest and make you look a fool. They teach you if a price tag does not match a DPCI it is considered a “ticket switch” and do not honor that price. Then when a guest complains they ask you why you didn’t honor the price?? You are pretty much damned if you do & damned if you don’t. It’s very confusing to say the least. They offer peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a benefit, but they take it away as a punishment. Yes, grown adults we are talking about here.

    Advice to Management

Please think for yourself. Be unique. Quit following the crowd. It’s sad to see how you talk about employees behind their back. The whole time I’m listening to you, I’m also wondering what you are saying about me to other team members. I feel as though I’m in high school.

I worked at Target (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Medical coverage was awesome, & had all the benefits that a good H.R. dept should have. Easy opportunities for advancement or lateral moves to different departments.

    Cons

As a supervisor, I was very uncomfortable with pressuring the cashier's to reach their credit app goal. If they didn't reach goal, that affected their reviews.

    Advice to Management

Relax on the credit card apps, I've heard it's been less of a focus these past years, but a discount retailer is not a bank. The cashiers should be cashiers, not credit card salespeople.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great coworkers, team environment, can be a really fun place to work
    - Customers treat you like you're human

    Cons

    - Will be required to work absurd hours, sometimes days over 14 hours as a manager
    - Meager pay, especially if you accept a manager job
    - Payroll is insane. They don't give out any hours, so it shows the company is dying

    Advice to Management

Retire, and go work somewhere else like K-Mart, where people who are incapable of running a company should go. You obviously have no ability to compete with other large retailers, so you are the problem. Having a slave labor force paid minimum wage won't make up for your inability to run a company

    Pros

Great for students in school or internships. Target is very flexible with schedules!

    Cons

Employees should be paid more than they receive in my opinion.

I worked at Target (More than 3 years)

    Pros

employee discount and chance to know about the sales before the general public. if you are a full time associate you qualify for all the benefits such as 401k, health insurance etc.

    Cons

Depending on the location the management doesn't always what they supposed to protect their employees and recognize their hard work.

    Advice to Management

when HQ executives visit the stores do it spontaneously (surprise) so you get to see the real environment and real manager on the field. Otherwise, is all planned out to show something is not real

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

friendly upbeat atmosphere, prizes for redcards opened, food/icecream days frequently based on store performance, tattoo/piercing friendly, lgbtq+ friendly, easy to move up from seasonal to permanent cashier, from cashier to GSA and beyond if you have a good work ethic

    Cons

pay, hard/impossible to get full time status until you are a team lead

    Advice to Management

increase wages and hire full time those who are willing to work full time, implement random drug tests and zero tolerance drug policy because alot of cashiers used to be high all the time and due to targets processes it took 3 months plus for them to get fired even though they never did work.
