I have been working at Target part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good clothes, clean, higher quality, better selection

    Cons

A lot like Wal-Mart's practices, higher prices, sometimes they don't have the simpler things

    Advice to Management

    Watch younger management

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Reliable company that is well established. Locations all over has made moving stores easy. Get to work with lots of people.

    Cons

Raises are not that great even for top performers. Seems easier to leave company and apply for higher position than promote within. Everyone has several leaders to please.

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly people, nice perks like free food and employee discounts.

    Cons

Minimal raises, HR was not great with scheduling hours. You would put in for tie off, be approved, and then they would still schedule you to work that day.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Target will take care of you if you work hard. The benefits are also something to talk about! Matching 401k, Kaiser as your preferred medical.

    Cons

Management. Lack of the word “Team” in team. ETLs only look out for themselves and could care less about lower end employees. The turn over rate for college graduates is extremely high! I saw a lot of ETLs come and go during my time at Target.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on your ETLs a little more closely.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great TPS Team Members. Really Good sales floor team members. As long as you are kind and courteous to the sales floor team members and your TPS's they will treat you like gold and help you greatly in your daily duties.
-My AP Team Lead was awesome in both locations that I worked.
-My AP Executive Team Lead was awesome in only one location.
-Target has by far the best theft intelligence reporting system in any retail setting and awesome communication between stores in your district, so knowing about booster activity and known subjects helps huge.

    Cons

-ETL's regularly don't do their jobs, so the AP Executive Team lead or even AP Team Lead ends up picking up a lot of slack.
-Target business culture placates criminals / shoplifters, so you will catch the same people all of the time.
-Target values quick buys / impulse buys over keeping their merchandise safe, so they have a high expectation for you to protect millions of dollars worth of merchandise, but won't back you when it comes to safeguarding it (or at least that's what EVERY STL will tell you).
-God help you / your job if you get a bad stop. You're better off if you're honest about getting it, but expect that they will drop the hammer on you. It's better to get fired for being honest than get fired and black marked for being a liar.

    Advice to Management

-Your AP culture would flourish if you would support your AP team. Stop dumping retail responsibilities that are yours and your team mates to handle on people that are already busy enough. Helping here and there is understandable, but pulling ETL's, Team Leads and TPS's constantly hurts the ability to stop theft from happening, both internal and external.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay, great team of people. Discounts were great depending on what you buy. Red card benefits. The hours were great and having the ability to switch teams, for more earning potential.

    Cons

Few managers, zoning. There were issues with hours, trying to keep every team coordinated, morning huddles were a waste of time. Cut off hours were a hassle

    Advice to Management

Be more present and don’t abuse authority

    Pros

I think that the title is enjoyable and satisfying and has many opportunities for moving higher into management.

    Cons

Hours include weekends and late nights at times. This makes weekend plans close to impossible.
