I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very predictable shift, you always know what you are going to face at work. As long as you do what is expected of you, the management will always treat you with respect.

    Cons

Can sometimes be boring. On nights where there aren't a lot of shoppers, you'll just spend your time in the back reorganizing.

Love helping ppl with things I know about and if I don't I can't wait to figure it out so I can help

    Cons

May tend to overextend my help

    Advice to Management

Very interested in working with ppl who need more understanding in products for companies

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Directly hire out of college, no unemployed period for worried college grads. Salary is good. Does offer benefit packages. Emphasis on development.

    Cons

Expected minimum 50 hours worked. Rotating weekends. Working holidays. Little time off. Typical retail culture: massive disconnect between bottom and top. Retail work is ultimately a battle in futility.

    Advice to Management

Less ETL's, more hourly managers. Leave the salary for district and up, staff the store better it WILL be cheaper.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work is easy to learn despite minimal training. They try to work with you if you go to school to make sure that your schedule doesn't conflict with classes.

    Cons

Upwards mobility is limited to people that are liked by the staff. Had to fight a lot to get the amount of hours that I was promised when I was hired.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance for sure!

    Cons

Really do not promote from within to upper management positions.

    Advice to Management

Look past the college recruits....low starting salaries......and you may find your TM's would be strong leaders within the company!

  7. "Better than some for retail, but not much better than Walmart"

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People working on floor and in back area are great for the most part. The sales force is for the most part fun, positive, helpful to co-workers and customers. People will drop what they are doing and help a new employee or customer/

    Cons

Terrible pay, not any better than Walmart. It is legalized slavery and really needs union for it's employees. I am retired (ie older worker - which is unusual for Target) and come from Fortune 100 sales forces. I don't know how people can survive on what Target pays it's employees, let alone there are no healthcare benefits.

    Advice to Management

None - you are all disposable monkeys, you just don't know it. Some LOD's could care less about customers - they are much more concerned with stocking, and punch times. What a joke for a store that advertises it's focus on customer service. Very cynical corporate view of employees (like all giant retailers). In 2012 they donated money to right wing political PAC's and also hedged by giving token amounts to the Democrats. Silly for a corporation that touts it's LGBT support.

    Pros

Pay is good, benefits are ok

    Cons

No work life balance- they keep eliminating positions and putting more on their already maxed out executives.
This particular area does not follow the corporate mission of being "best to their team members"
promotions are based on friendships insstead of ability.

    Advice to Management

Senior management should spend more time looking at who is really the ones doing all the work.
