I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay, Flexibility, Hours and Learning Programs

    Cons

Job description was not accurate. Frustrating at times.

    Advice to Management

Hire a separate employee to re-shop and front products. If an employee is hired in the technology department and is also in charge of mobile tech they should not have to be spending long periods of time fronting and fixing the toy and seasonal isle.

    Pros

    There are no pros here

    Cons

Work culture is negative, management in store and pharmacy is a mess, promised full time hours and then cut them after I transferred to their store, among many others

    Pros

Overall great co workers and the company is structured in a manner where employees can voice their concerns to top level management. Good pay package as well as a good vacation package.

    Cons

Advancement within the company is poorly arranged, new candidates are mostly favored when current employees apply for the same job with similar experience and qualifications. distribution of task within departments is always so uneven among employees.

    Advice to Management

Management can consider the career desires of current employees for new openings if they meet the requirements. job assignments should be made clear to every department, some departments don't complete their task and are not held accountable

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is for distribution center only, store environments are completely different.
Compensation...They do an annual "wage survey" to evaluate the compensation offered to employees like the ones they have and hire to make sure they offer competitive compensation, and make adjustments across the board every year.
Training...Their expectations of employees and the soft-skills training they offer to help employees get there get great results. Because of this training and experience, I am better trained, ready and qualified than peers from other backgrounds in subsequent jobs.
Great start for recent college grads to get some relevant management and operations experience under their belts.

    Cons

Even at such a big company with such great intentions, each person's job experience is only as good as their immediate supervisor. There is a steady stream of new, inexperienced and untrained managers flowing through the building who often disrupt operations and disrespect long-time, high performing reports.
At this point in Target's history, every innovation, every advancement, every idea comes from the top down, and input from the bottom is not only unwanted, but stifled. This has not always been the case, and I hope in the future the pendulum swings back the other way.

    Advice to Management

To senior management, and hiring teams...your low-level managers need more. Perhaps a co-management training period with an experienced manager.
To all managers, especially entry level...your production teams want to do a great job they can be proud of. They have an amazing knowledge base in much more than moving boxes. Value them, their contributions, and their ideas. That's all they have ever wanted, and another free meal will not make up for the loss of morale over they way they are treated.
