I have been working at Target part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Easy to ask for days off, very nice coworkers, treats everyone fairly.

    Cons

Won't get anywhere in the company unless you're a GSTL or an LOD, Getting extra hours are now next to impossible to get. Low hours, the fact that they seem to always hire people around those times makes it even harder

I worked at Target for more than a year

    Pros

Decent cash for having no degree or general achievements in life seems to be the sort of person they favor esp in the fulfillment centers. Full timers expect temps and seasonals to do all the work.

    Cons

Get ready to work with a lot of adult babies. If you do a great job expect to get reemed and followed around by management. It's a culture of preventing others from looking too good most of the time.

    Advice to Management

I heard a senior manager telling a new manager, "this place practicallh runs itself. Just stick to your guns and don't worry about trying to do much." Thats pretty pathetic.

I worked at Target part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very good pay for a customer service job.

    Cons

When pay increases, so does the starting pay, meaning that even with 5 years experience, new hires make the same as everybody else.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They offer great leadership experience and really push you to develop in role. There's always opportunity to improve at Target and there is a lot of time spent planning and discussing how to make the company better. Working in .com, you really get to be involved with the planning and decision making processes that have an impact on the entire network.

    Cons

Expectations vary so much across the network that it really depends on the building you end up in. The work life balance is terrible and the turnover of senior management and middle management makes it difficult to develop yourself long term or have a long term strategy with your team. There's a lot of "shiney ball syndrome", because of the lacking job knowledge. The number of "high priority" initiatives rolled out... on a regular basis is exhausting and there's no way to keep up with the additional workload without putting in time outside of your scheduled period on a weekly basis. Recognition from management is minimal and comes across as disingenuous. The growth you get from the experience is valuable but most people can expect to leave the company disgruntled.

    Advice to Management

Care about your OMs and team instead of using them as tools. Don’t ask your team to compromise their integrity so you don’t look incompetent.
