I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

flexibility with schedule, good team culture, easy to learn

    Cons

politics, favoritism, lack of opportunity, retail

    Advice to Management

don't put yourself on a pedestal so high, that you are unable to see eye to eye

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Again, a great first job. You will probably make friends. Superiors are mostly helpful and just want to get things done smoothly. Longer lunches than other minimum wage companies.

    Cons

Intimidating. No moving up. Hard to talk to management. Archaic register systems (who doesn't have bad registers though) and sometimes unrealistic goals. No guest will ever review you unless you make them not want to.

    Advice to Management

Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, really. Nobody can get 3 REDcards a day when everyone has one already. Shift leads and lower managers should definitely be paid more for how much they deal with, though, considering they also have to have a degree.

    Pros

You can get a job as a last resort.

    Cons

Everything bad that you heard about Target is likely to be true. You'll find it yourself, sooner than later.

    Advice to Management

    Please train your store managers.

I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible Schedule, easy job, no responsibilities, a lot of power as a cashier, great supervisors.

    Cons

Upper management, os of then, thought they were entitled to everything that us 'hourly' employees were not. They wouldn't help on the lanes, they would sip Starbucks and talk while we busted our buts trying to get the lines down.

    Advice to Management

Blur the lines between management and non management. We may have different titles and education but that doesn't mean we are dumb hourly employees pushing buttons. Help out. It'd mean a lot if you became an employees outside the doors instead of watching through a management window.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For what it is, it's a fun environment where you can make friends with co-workers and enjoy interacting with guests. It's a good starter job, but don't plan on staying for more than a few years, since it's kind of a dead-end place to work. If you take the job seriously, you can develop excellent people skills, discipline, and an empathic attitude toward people of all walks of life.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities. Condescension from upper management who have a tendency to treat you like a child. Unpredictable scheduling that can change with minimal notice.

    Advice to Management

Develop your employees so they can use their experience at Target to either grow within the company or get a better job somewhere else. Be willing to hire people who seek to honor the Sabbath and make it easier for your current employees to honor the Sabbath -- I had to fight for 6 months to get my Sundays off so that I could attend church and honor the day. Sadly, it did not help my chances for promotion even though I was dependable, trustworthy, and excellent with guests.

    Pros

Good hours, almost all days that were requested off were permitted, very flexible schedule, friendly co workers, earning more than minimum wage

    Cons

No room for advancement for a career at target, you get written up for working over five hours and not taking a break, get written up for working over time
