I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent pay, vacation, 401k and bonuses. Structure for executives was competitive and well organized. Room for growth and to use your ideas. If needed help you were sure to have it there.

    Cons

Over hiring and didn't have my own store as an executive after eight months. Accused of things I didn't even do.

    Advice to Management

Please re-read your guidelines and follow them, even if it seems that you may lose your job and sales are tight. Read and follow your own Bible.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy work, flexible schedule, great as a part time job if you're a student

    Cons

Minimum wage--even if you've been promoted twice. No room for upward mobility as upper management makes a lot of promises to a lot of people and priority goes to nicest instead of most qualified or hardworking.

    Advice to Management

Work on team engagement--it will lead to better productivity. Pick favorites based on proven work ethic, not seniority or popularity. Take the time to get to know inner workings of departments instead of occasionally dropping by or only communicating with leaders. Don't be afraid to be personable with team members-- give respect to get respect. Lead by example instead of having a "do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" attitude with team members.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay at ETL and above levels and team member discounts.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations with continuing reduction of payroll. Management is unwilling to listen to concerns of leadership team. Message is basically, get it done. Creates an environment where salaried employees need to work 12+ hours to per day to meet expectations.

    Advice to Management

Don't just be concerned with team member concerns, you need to care about your store leadership teams as well. They set the tone for your stores and they need to feel supported. Allow leadership team to realistically complete the twice annual task/management survey. When others fill it out truthfully, they are coached for not having balance. Everyone is feeling that way, but does not fill out out truthfully for fear of being coached.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The team culture at Target is extremely positive and friendly. You are encouraged to speak your mind and the store is very proactive when it comes to employee or "Team" events. Food is often provided to Team Members in the break room. It is VERY hard to get fired for minor mistakes or attendance issues because you are warned far in advance if there is an issue. The company is also friendly to tattoos, piercings, and exotic hair colors which is very refreshing. Getting time off is also very simple and so is swapping shifts.

    Cons

The cons of working at Target are basically the cons of working in any big retail store. Team members and managers are constantly coming and going and because there are so many managers, it can be stressful to adapt to each of their very different leadership styles from day to day. There is also a LOT of pressure to work quickly. Even when you are brand new you might find yourself being pushed a lot which can be stressful.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to make sure to communicate thoroughly and frequently with each other because when 5 different leaders expect 5 different things done in 5 different ways it can be confusing.

    Pros

Good management who are accommodating of your hours and schedule, flexible hours, great team members who will likely become your good friends for years.

    Cons

Problem team members tend to stay on board for longer than you would care for, rude guests, lose of personal time during high-traffic holidays.

    Advice to Management

Please evaluate problematic team members who drag morale down. They often times hurt productivity rather than help.

I have been working at Target part-time

    Pros

EXCELLENT management, encourages an environment of openness and individual leadership ("The Vibe"). Very friendly customers, coworkers and overall atmosphere.

    Cons

Since a healthy worker is a happy worker, (and all employees here fortunately are) they naturally become so good at their jobs that minimum wage becomes unfair for everyone and there isn't really room to move up much.

    Advice to Management

Absolutely NO criticism to management, only to corporate. Pay your workers more for their high quality of work and their success at creating the unique atmosphere that customers come to Target for.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pretty Decent Salary and a lot of career and personal development opportunities. Has some flexibility with work schedules for a retail business company along with good benefits.

    Cons

Hours can be pretty long especially if placed in a store with a lot of areas of opportunity. Holiday's are tough and there is little flexibility with spending time with family during thanksgiving and christmas. Pay is good but they will work you pretty hard, leaders are expected to ramp up very quickly which causes a lot of retention issues.

    Advice to Management

allocate more payroll for store teams in urban areas, guest's and store teams are noticing the decline in standards for store operations.

    Pros

Great experience working in retail and understanding how to accommodate guests to keep line moving. Managers are great to work with and very helpful to guests.

    Cons

Long shifts for seasonal positions and only two days out of the week. Low compensation. GSA, GSTL, and ETL expect cashiers to know how to handle all situations without training. For instance, coupons are supposed to be retained by cashiers after guest uses them and this was never explained in orientation. So almost threw them away but was able to take them out of trash before another coworker said not to throw them away.

    Advice to Management

More training on coworkers would relieve a lot of stress off of GSTL's and GSA's so they can be focused on helping guests than answering questions that could have been covered in training.
