I worked at Tata Communications full-time

    Pros

Tata was a great place to work for. There was plenty of room for growth and there was no micro management. Excellent work/life balance.

    Cons

    Non I can think of.

I have been working at Tata Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Positive Culture in North America. Great camaraderie. Good options to move around company. CLevel accessible to employees. Quarterly visits from Clevel team. Good international opportunities and foot holds in ASIA PAC and EMEA regions.

    Cons

Not a lot of assets in North America. Products lacking. New cloud products are 5-10 years behind schedule and that of competitors. Emphasis on cloud products but these are overshadowed by legacy telecom products. Telecom bureaucracy makes it hard for the company to act nimble. Hard for startup and mid small to mid level enterprises to do business with slow response time of product and commercial teams.

    Advice to Management

Allow new product like cloud service to operate as startups within the org. Give them autonomy to operate as their own entity and allow them to compete with the market.

I worked at Tata Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, some good people you can learn from, decent salaries and benefits. support for learning and development. Products are innovative. HR tries hard.

    Cons

flexible hours effectively means availability is expected 24/7. company has been undergoing restructure and transitions for a year resulting in confusion on job roles and careers, complicated more by ego issues, politics and distraction at senior management levels, while juniors avoid identification, accountability and ownership. overall culture and way of working is reactive, a decade out of date, and heavily bogged down in rigid process and bureaucracy. performance is judged by perception, posturing and visibility, more than actual work done. tendency to run after buzzwords. unreasonable deadlines, and nobody responds to requests without chasing. random layoffs to save costs followed by huge spends on 'team building'. changing priorities and reactive management means you always run behind a dozen things, all most important and all due yesterday.

    Advice to Management

you have too many people in positions they do not know how to do, at all levels. there's also very little clarity on who does what, resulting some people avoiding responsibility and others causing chaos by doing what they feel like. invest in training, set performance according to defined and trained outcomes, and set possible expectations. 9 women in 1 month do not a baby make, even if you have 'committed to boss' they can. hire competent people. understand what each person does and why.

I have been working at Tata Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Focus on capability development with very expansive learning options. Awesome, people centered CEO. Caring management focused on growth. Really a very cool place to work . Highly ethical culture

    Cons

Every place has its issues. Fewer issues than most at TCL. Really no negatives. Too much good going on here.

    Advice to Management

Deeper trust in front line managers. Give more responsibility for managing their teams and then hold accountable for the results.

I have been working at Tata Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work/Life Balance: is decent. The ability to work remotely is a benefit.
Healthy benefit are ok. Company still provides a yearly bonus which is not common these days. Since the company is global it gives one the opportunity to work out of their comfort zone with other cultures and ethnic backgrounds

    Cons

    80:20 Man:Women Ratio with no sign of change;
Advancement is non-existent, unless you are a "Chosen one"
Constant reorganization, which results in layoffs, but there is always an influx of new upper management that is created after the layoffs ( with higher salaries and job descriptions)
Company still runs like a start-up although it has been in existence for 15 years. Systems and processes are a mess and instead of figuring out what the underlying problem is they just keep adding people to the equation. Trying to make sales numbers is very difficult when the process and systems needed are archaic.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your existing employees. Help advance their careers instead of constantly hiring new management.

    Pros

Opportunity to learn new skills, and a lot of really talented and good people at the company.

    Cons

Unless you are a chosen leader you could stay in the same role for many years with no promotion even if you're taking on more responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Diversity means different ideas and styles of working not just gender or race.
