I worked at Tata Consultancy Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity to meet and work with clients

    Cons

Very poor supervisors, managers and HR. The company is extremely unethical, unprofessional and manipulative when it comes to billing clients, paying their employees and preparing T4s for the employees. They follow a lot of name-sake processes which allows employees to address their concerns but the concerns and issues raised by the employees are never looked into. Appreciations in this company are never meant for the employees who worked on the task but for the employees towards whom the manager is biased.

    Advice to Management

Being a huge company does not mean you should be biased towards the higher management. The employees who bring in business should be appreciated and rewarded accordingly. Be honest!

I have been working at Tata Consultancy Services as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great for people who have no life in Canada ( which is still better than life in India)
    - Good place for immigrants to get started..

    Cons

    - Extremely bureaucratic
    - Agonizing wait of 30 days hold for reimbursement of services !!
    - Very low contract rates

    Advice to Management

Please speak in English when other people around you do not speak you native language. I have seen senior managers speaking in Telugu, Tamil or Hindi in meetings - very arrogant and unprofessional attitude.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

a starter to your career for non-expert, average / below average people with limited skill set.

    Cons

low pay, high expectation, no / minimal learning (mostly support is required), servicing like a servant to client (whatever non-sense clients say you should say "OK" with no complaint!), There is not a north american culture within the company (mainly Indian people (brown people) work with this company in NA, barely a white person has been hired since I worked there!!), working with many immigrants/temporary workers on work permit from India/pakistan who do not know the life style in NA, annoying manager who does micromanaging, non-accommodating human resource associates (dont expect any raise or promotion), horrible vacation benefits, no work/life balance (you work in the weekends), and etc.

I worked at Tata Consultancy Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

TCS is a quickly expanding global IT consultancy company so there are plenty of exciting career opportunities and opportunities to transfer internationally.

    Cons

All major decisions are made out of TCS's global head office in India so there is very limited opportunity to have any influence or say in how the company is run from outside of the country. It is also extremely difficult to be recruited or promoted into a senior role, such as head of department, as the vast majority of these roles are taken by expats employed in India.

    Advice to Management

Create PLCs across the globe representing each of the countries TCS operates in, or at least each geographical area such as EMEA or North America, to better serve your clients and your associates.

I worked at Tata Consultancy Services (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not a single one, if you getting job as security guard take that job ...

    Cons

Feel like back home work environment, too much politics, long hours, lack of professionalism, chaos and confusion across the board, favoritism, unethical business practices, no support from managers , the list goes on..

    Advice to Management

    Time to open eyes

I have been working at Tata Consultancy Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Low risk of losing your job

    Flexible hours

You don't necessarily need a Computer Science degree to get a job in software. (They accept math or other engineering degrees as well)

    Cons

Your career goals may be disregarded

Most employees are incompetent (and so can you!)

Uncompensated overtime. There is a prevailing culture of working through lunch and working late hours frequently.

Your job may be to sit in a chair and be billable to a client.

Little diversity in the workplace. (90% of employees are Indian born)

    Advice to Management

Management appears to be trying to fix the diversity problem by hiring local, however the practice of spreading out all of the local hires leaves everyone miserable.

I have been working at Tata Consultancy Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Job security , Salary is ok for QA.

    Cons

Everything else, job satisfaction, management, job location, so much politics

    1) So much politics, everything is for a show. Even though there is not much work sometimes, you have report your work on hourly basis.
    2) They keep stitching you from project to project without any training without ant notice
    3) No control of job location. You can be told to go to a total different location with 2 days of notice
    4) I have heard stories of they making people cry, cause they harass so much. I have experienced this situation myself
    5) You will be forced to work long hours and weekend support without any compensation. And blame you for being slow.
    6) They treat their employees like slaves. So much of Indian mentality. It is not going to work with us Canadians.

    Advice to Management

They should not treat their employees like slaves. They might be doing this to get more international/offshore labor instead of hiring the locals, but this is not a good way.
