I have been working at Tata Steel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They seemed to be in a hurry to just hire up anyone ASAP. They did not consider proper conduct or validity of points in the Group discussion.

    Cons

Did not even read the form they asked us to fill. Completely technical interview yet such steep shortlisting from meager Group discussion: 24 to 4!

    Advice to Management

and took just one from the entire institute! not fair if u come on the first day!

    Pros

One can get out of office whenever he wants.

    Cons

    So many.
    1) Desparity at it its highest.
    2) Salary varies from 30k - 50k in entry level.
    3) Some chiefs are very incompetent.
    Hardly anything to learn.

    Advice to Management

Don't try to typecast employees because it won't work in the future.

I worked at Tata Steel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Ethical.
Provides good facilities for the sort of places that people are deputed.
There is still the influence of the Tata values which prevents the organization from descending into utter chaos

    Cons

Extremely political senior management. Decisions are made to appease higher ups rather than on the merit of its value to the business. The company functions totally on favoritism and very strong university lobby groups exist within the organization. In the process of building an image of being inclusive (as opposed to elitist) the company has lost its focus on excellence, hiring candidates from all sorts of places. Below average salaries are another issue. I personally never got the professionally enriching experience that I signed up for.

    Advice to Management

Complete revamp of the senior management is needed.

I have been working at Tata Steel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great past...which the company and employees take pride in

    Cons

Cronyism is rampant...Senior Management considers themselves nothing less than God leaving you with very little freedom to act

    Advice to Management

Hopefully with New MD at the helm of affairs, things will improve. But again have very little hope with the new man in the President Role will be able to motivate the people around him. Past MD was simply a poor example of putting an incompetent person on leadership position and on almost all values he falls way short..Hopefully the new MD will bring change as fresh whiff of air...

    Pros

Great company to start if you are looking to stay for two years. Recognised world wide. So helps with Ms and mba applications

    Cons

not that a good company for students belonging to IT background. Technologies are obsolete and management is strict on timings even if you don't work.

    Advice to Management

Flexible working hours should be highly encouraged.

I worked at Tata Steel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only pro would be the people you work with, not the ones you work for.

    Cons

Management are under qualified. An average worker with half a brain might be your boss one day - beware! My boss was straight out of college with a Biology degree, what's that got to do with managing a steel plant?

    Advice to Management

Instead of cutting back on overtime you should maybe stop middle management wasting their yearly budget on BMWs...

I worked at Tata Steel full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good range of kit to learn on

Can't really think of anymore to write and it's a 20 word minimum

    Cons

    Management
    Salary
    Treated like dirt
    Not looked after at all
    Preach safety but never practice
Preach a lot of good things but never deliver
Lure you in with plans and progression but all they do is break your spirit

Asbestos is everywhere and never dealt with in the correct way

You'll go home with long term chest problems and health problems

Lots of backhand deals going on

Management are all idiots that got their jobs by flukes or because they know someone

    Advice to Management

    Complete management restructure

  10. "Not good for MBA graduate from good institute"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Nothing other than brand name of TATA , only a feel Good factor,

    Cons

Huge difference between what is promised at campus ( in terms of CTC) & what you see at company,
    Blunders in a offer letter,
Need strong "jack" to get justice
Very limited scope to work in field of your interest, but if you have some " jack" then you will be on top priority, you will be placed in a best profile &........!
Very much low in hand salary, huge amount of non-cash components which you can't use
Join only if you know someone on a good position,

    Advice to Management

Please try to be more transparent in terms of CTC , policies & justice
