    Pros

Tatts is a big company with big infrastructure, which inevitably means large scale problems (at least for Australia) and cool toys.

    Cons

Catastrophically bad senior management. I've been in the workplace 20 years, and maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never encountered senior management as oblivious and out of touch as these.

    Advice to Management

    Leave

    Pros

    Some innovative things happening.
Some awesome people, once you find them

    Cons

Along way to go to change the mentality of management
    Many not so awesome people
    Silos everywhere

    Advice to Management

Listen to your new hires that are SMEs, its why you hired them. Continue to break the silos

I worked at Tatts Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The team generally have a can-do attitude.
Consistently able to have some flexibility in work schedule.
If you worked at Wotif or Suncorp, you're set.

    Cons

Wholesale regime change occurred over last 24 months, and reflections of what was good and bad in the mix don't appear to have been taken into account. Substantial brain drain and multiple re-structures of teams have led to very reduced work output.

Lotteries and Wagering technical teams and leadership decimated.

Major acquisitions ceased after the SA Lotteries work and international expansion plans failed to happen, leading to very incremental work and very few chances to do new, exciting work.

    Advice to Management

    None really.

    "Promising future for tech employees"

    Positive Outlook
    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Easy to get access to licenses, tools and hardware when required
Willingness to experiment with new approaches and new tech (within reason, government regulated after all)
They manage their own hiring most of the time, recruitment agencies not usually involved

Change of CIO (Mandy Ross) has allowed some pretty nice changes to happen in the company
Moving forward in tech space a rapid pace, could potentially become a tech leader in the future

    Cons

Still quite a few archaic systems in place (to be expected in most large, long surviving tech based company)
Teams are far too silo'd; BA/business rep, development and test need to work together rather than being completely separate teams who happen to be working on the same project/product
No real BA process to speak of, need more quality BA's.

    Advice to Management

    Cut dead wood

Hire quality BA's, dedicate them to few projects so they can help with requirements gathering and provide a consistent process

Break the silo mentality, possibly by grouping team members together by the project/product they're working on. No more "the developer team", "the test team"

I worked at Tatts Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not many anymore, unless you are one of the favoured few in the inner circle

    Cons

New CEO a few years ago and brought a large number with him, I mean 100+. Technology needed change, but reimplementing what they did at wotif with the same people from wotif will lead to the same failures. It is buzzwords and brromsticks, if your not part of the wotif click, your out the door

    Advice to Management

You have developed a poisonous toxic culture, you are loosing your good people, and replacing them with pretty people from wotif who have no idea, and have no understanding of the business. CEO Rating is for Cookem not McIllewan

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Tatts Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Since the placement of a new CEO and CIO there have been a number of positive changes since early 2015. The technology department is undergoing an agile transformation and has embraced a devops culture. There's definitely a lot of room to move and grow within Tatts and the culture is beginning to reflect a new fresh, more open attitude.

    Cons

Being an old and large company, any such change will take time - there are a lot of staff who have been with the company for a long time and some of them are unwilling to change. Many of these are either causing tension, or moving on.

    Advice to Management

    Keep with the current direction.
