I have been working at Teach for America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best professional development, very organized, focuses on continuously learning, people truly care for each other, amazing mission :)

    Cons

Some times the work load can be a lot, there is a high bar for strong results (as there should be), but it can be stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep prioritizing DEI. This is what sets you apart and keep caring about the people first, performance second. If you want to increase staff retention, just increase salaries to be more competitive (especially in cities with higher costs of living).

    Cons

Tough assignments. Classroom management can be challenging.

I worked at Teach for America (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot of inclusivity and your voice will be heard, maybe not listened to, but you'll have your time in the spotlight.

    Cons

If you weren't a corps member don't bother - it's like a club within the company and they make it a point to make you feel like an outsider if you were never a corps member.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people poorly based on whether or not they were a part of the program prior to working there.

    Pros

Work with intelligent people who are very driven. Exposure to lots of different issues in education and society at large. Good networking opportunities.

    Cons

Low salary. Lack of support. Experience at school sites can vary. Sometimes it seems like the corporate TFAers just want to set you up then leave you.

    Advice to Management

Focus more energy on younger grades as this will have the greatest impact for changing the education landscape in the long-term. Be more transparent with corps members concerning unwritten codes of some school systems.
