I worked at Teach for America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great and working from home is a huge plus.

    Cons

I didn't always get paid overtime. This was because my manager at the time was more concerned about the bottom line than paying for work earned.

    Advice to Management

Specifically to managers on the Recruitment team please be sure that you are showing your appreciation to your team. You all have lost so many great people because they felt unappreciated and undervalued.

I have been working at Teach for America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very open to change. The organization has made lots of big changes recently due to the feedback from its corps members. There used to be a lot of mandatory sessions that corps members needed to attend on Saturday, but that is no longer the case.

    Cons

It is hard to predict where you are going to get placed within the program. Some people have great placement schools, while others do not.

I worked at Teach for America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great mission, great people, opportunity to do great work.

    Cons

Lots of organizational issue associated with quick growth. Lots of cooks in the kitchen.

    Advice to Management

Focus on building staff bottom up instead of top down. There are too many top managers comfortable in the bubbles they have built.

    Pros

Company is supportive. They promote diversity. Encourage professional growth. Over all it is a difficult job, but worth it in the long run because of the kids.

    Cons

Very time consuming. Teach for America doesn't pay you (your school district does) but expects you to spend multiple hours a week completing work that often seems pointless. But they will tell you they are not there to burden you but ONLY support you, which is a lie.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to give more useful professional development and stop piling on the workload, but instead try to actually support the teachers in the organization.
