    - Build close relationships with a community of students and families

    Cons

    - Transitioning from college to TFA with no or little salary can be a challenge

    Advice to Management

Continue to support teachers with MTLDs, socials, and resources. The resources are tremendously helpful!!

    Pros

Given legit work from the get go, have the opportunity to put use your own ideas, coworkers were great!! I had an amazing summer

    Cons

People first is the motto of Institute and sometimes I felt like we were catering to everyone's needs so matter how minuscule they were. I felt like there were more important things I could be doing with my time

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. The internship is great for gaining connections and professional development.

I worked at Teach for America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities for professional development and networking. You have the opportunity to work with great kids and families! If you have a good support system you can find a lot of success as a teacher and make big gains with your class.

    Cons

A lot of your success and overall job happiness hinge on where you are placed. The school that you get placed at makes all the difference. This can be a big gamble when choosing to sign up for TFA. Also, your MTLD is a huge factor. My MTLD was not very present, only came to my class a few times through the year, and did not know any of my students. This on top of a school that was not very supportive of TFA meant that when I encountered problems I did not have anywhere to turn.

    Advice to Management

Support your corps members in the classroom, in the day to day life of being a teacher. PD is great, but most of just needed more help when it came to the daily struggles and tribulations. If we don't get any support from our assigned school, we are relying on you to get us through. Don't leave corps members floundering.

I worked at Teach for America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits from pooling resources together, accessible office

    Cons

A real shot in the dark in regards to placement; your whole experience depends on it. The MTLD's were okay, at best. Felt very undersupported

    Advice to Management

    Change up the senior leadership

I worked at Teach for America (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very smart people who care about the work. Very open environment, employees are trusted to get the job done in an ethical way. Not a lot of hand holding unless necessary, you have the freedom to achieve. You can create your own future and opportunities through individual role expansion.

    Cons

Not enough business leaders, too many teachers making business and fiscal decisions with little background on that side of the work.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to listen to people who have more business experience, don't let ego get in the way. Ask questions; top down only works if the folks at the top have the knowledge and leadership to lead.

TFA is an organization w/a fantastic philosophy and a dedicated team of people. Flexible part-time position meant I could fit it in when possible.

    Cons

    Pros

Great people - dedicated, hard-working, extremely fun group of people.
Chance to make a true impact from day 1

    Cons

TFA, at times, is not that supportive of Corps Members having trouble at their schools
Some of the PD training was excessive

    Advice to Management

Don't lower expectations for Corps Members
    Only require some PD sessions
