-well-resourced program -other students were a joy to get to know -great way to travel to new places and about different contexts -the automatic TFA corps bid is a nice perk

      Cons

-way too much, poorly conceived "professional development" -poor communication to students -a lot of TFA propaganda

great place to be on staff, highly recommend it if you are aligned with the organizational mission

      Pros

*very intentional and values-driven organization *competitive compensation for non-profit organization * strong benefits package * hardworking, dedicated, fun co-workers * great alumni and staff network and opportunity to learn from very talented, caring people with experiences in a variety of for-profits and non-profits * flexible work hours (long hours, but can work remotely for many national team roles) * opportunities for professional development and taking on big jobs early in one's career

      Cons

      * long work hours - everyone is dedicated to their work and many are young team members without families so sometimes tricky to find balance or you feel like you don't want to say no (although organization is committed to providing tools and resources that support this) * going through organizational transition between regional and national teams so staff experience and strength of your manager / professional development may differ based on specific team * if you are on the national team, may operate in a very virtual way, include several communication loops and checkpoints with a variety of stakeholders before rolling out big projects, and/or have lots of national travel (this could be a pro or con depending on what you are looking for and your work style but good to know)

      Highly Rewarding Experience

      Jul 5, 2016 -

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Unique experience that can be highly rewarding and life-changing if you really put your heart into it. - TFA really cares about your personal growth. They give you a lot of specialized attention to help coach you and develop you professionally. - TFA really listens to your feedback and tries to accommodate. Your opinion, personality, and voice matters to this organization.

      Cons

      - By legal requirement, as a TFA Corps Member you are required to put in a certain number of professional development hours with Teach for America in order to qualify for the AmeriCorps grant. Frankly, many of these hours (often spent on Saturdays) can seem like a huge waste of time, especially when you are already bogged down with so many responsibilities through your school, grading, and the certificate or graduate program you are concurrently enrolled in. These are, in my opinion, the worst part of Teach for America, especially once you already feel you have ample support and training available. - At said professional development events, a lot of time is spent grappling with political/social issues rather than focusing on improving teaching. Nothing wrong with delving a little into culture/politics/social justice issues, but sometimes it can seem that their primary focus is to politically indoctrinate, which can detract from focusing on helping kids and leave a bad taste in your mouth.
