I worked at Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana full-time

    Pros

Great people and low to mid-level management. Overall good work culture. Flexible work hours, decent benefits, paid holidays.

    Cons

After low to mid level management, very little promotional opportunities. Disconnect between upper management and regular employees. Too much politics.

    Advice to Management

I am in no position to advise management nor would I want to. I do not know all the ins and outs of their positions or reasons for certain action on non-action depending on the employee. My only advise would be to treat ALL employees the same across the board.

I have been working at Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security as long as retirement systems are not merged
Good pay for those in accounting jobs
Somewhat flexible work hours, can flex time if needed
    Great location and nice offices

    Cons

Management hires from outside and rarely promotes from within
Upper management is very disconnected from lower level staff
Morale is very low due to politics and inequitable pay amongst staff
Rules lean toward more rigid end of what is acceptable by civil service standards
    Too top heavy
Extra hard work and dedication goes unoticed or without praise/compensation

    Advice to Management

If the economy weren't so bad, there would be a much higher turn-over rate at this agency. Please stop treating people like they are replaceable. They may be, but it doesn't help morale or encourage productivity. Trust your employees more and treat them like professionals. If there is a hiring freeze, then abide by it.
