    Pros

Always something new and challenging. Great place for someone who likes working in a complex environment and likes to be challenged. Lots of opportunities to take on initiatives and make a difference, lots of freedom to manage workload/responsibilities. Flexible work schedule and benefits are great.

    Cons

As a non-profit, resources can be a bit limited.

"management is always restructuring - high staff turnover"

I worked at Team San Jose full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Sometimes, you get complimentary tickets to theaters and shows at the Convention Center and other cultural facilities that they manage. (They used to offer a generous amount of tickets but restructuring the company have restricted many perks.) Location is great - accessible to downtown eateries. The employer covers monthly parking cost which many companies in downtown don't.

    Cons

Unless you're "friends" with or kissing up to upper management, your head will be in the chopping block no matter how hard you work. Lots of micro management because they do not have faith in staff's integrity. There is no work/life balance. Many people there will throw you in the bus and back stab you just so they can look good. The lazy and incompetent employees are still around because they are conniving and fake so they can look like a star while all the genuine dedicated employees left the company. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE!

    Advice to Management

This is a hospitality company, go hire people who fit in that category. There are a lot of staff including management that are NOT hospitable. They are NOT approachable and do NOT care about staff/customers. Hire directors/managers who actually know how to manage/genuinely care about their staff - not treat staff like a robot. Learn to care more about staff and focus less on politics to reduce high staff turnover. Good employees are not those that work the longest hours in the office - good employees are those that will get the work done. There are only a very few good employees left there so I hope you hold onto those.

I worked at Team San Jose as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun environment to work with all the staff! Great opportunities to to hear a LOT of talented artists. Chance to be part of something that brings a lot of fun to San Jose

    Cons

Being a non-profit they are always looking to keep costs down so it was difficult at times to setup the VIP area as I would have liked.

    Advice to Management

Keep thinking outside the box and producing a GREAT event for everyone that is able to attend.

I worked at Team San Jose (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are people who genuinely love their jobs and are hard workers. You form some close friendships out of the workplace.

    Cons

Upper management is useless. You voice concerns to HR and nothing comes from it. A few people may get a slight slap on the wrists, but they are still there making more than everyone else. It's extremely unfair. Unless you are in the top "in-crowd", it's very hard to progress

    Advice to Management

My advice to the Board is to get rid of upper management and start fresh.

    Pros

There are a lot of perks. Free tickets to shows, concerts, monthly lunches, etc.
    Great co-workers.
Medical, Dental, 401K matching, PTO, Holidays.

    Cons

It is a place where it's not always what you know, but who you know. It can be very stifling and unsatisfying after a while. There are not a lot of opportunities to grow unless you're friends with the higher-ups.
Despite the name, not everyone works as a team.

    Advice to Management

Take another look at who is really putting in the hard work for you and reward them. a $5 gift-card does not cut it. They are the backbone and you should treat them well.

I worked at Team San Jose full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at Team San Jose was a great opportunity as it gave me experience with many projects within the city. From attending private and public events to meeting city officials and the people in charge of making fun stuff happen, like the Music Festival or Winter Movies. Really learned a lot about what it takes to run a city.

    Cons

It’s a super busy environment, with a constant workflow, but the flex hours make it manageable and the marketing and public relations directors always tried their best to have their employees backs.
