I worked at Teavana full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Experience of the products and servicing to customers. Learning how to sell tea and merch you fall in love with yourself.

    Cons

Unachiveable sales goals and merch goals, promotions are given to those who shouldn't be in the position / who are friends with higher up. The pay doesn't not encourage hard work at all for a Starbucks company.

    Advice to Management

Focus on properly encouraging your members and speak up against higher ups if you think its a horrible idea. Stop kissing butt, it makes you stagnant skill wise.

I worked at Teavana full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture was upbeat and fun. The environment promoted close friendships, even after two years many of my closest friends are from my time at Teavana. There were tons of promotion opportunities. Overall, the environment is casual, for example, the dress code is not strict, and there were few PC/ red tape policies. It is a good job for college students or fresh graduates. Compensation for leadership roles was sufficient, especially considering they did not require higher education to hold a leadership role.

    Cons

Becuase of all the promotion opportunities and liberal policies there was a lack of structure and leadership in mid and upper management. Too many people were promoted into leadership roles only because they could meet sales numbers. This resulted in some stores and regions having low morale, high turnover, dropping sales numbers, and HR related issues.
I held a management role, and I found myself working all the time. However, for entry level people there was the proper balance in work and personal time.
Store level employees were pushed to make sales quotas too hard, and their bonus and hours were connected to their sales goals. This is not always motivating and in fact often caused the opposite effect. There are better ways to inspire teams to meet store goals.

I worked at Teavana full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When the company was based in Atlanta, it had a different feeling and the ways of running the company were different. More of a "smaller company" mentality.

    Cons

Has been acquired by Starbucks, who changed the branding and the way things are run. I believe everything is based out of Seattle now - and I cannot comment on that since I did not move there with the company.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the original branding, the gift sets, loose leaf teas, and attention to detail of the products. There was something special there that paid tribute to the REAL history of tea, the amazing culture of tea all throughout the world - I think that is something important being looked over now. Once acquired by a very large company, however, things are bound to change.

    Pros

    Great benefits, niche market presence

    Cons

The conversion to the Starbucks culture has gutted the fundamental processes in a way that seriously impacts success.

    Advice to Management

Bring in people who understand the industry and store relations rather than try to shoehorn Starbucks management styles and vision into a retail environment.

Cut back on the pushy sales it doesn't help promote a healthy fun environment for either the employees or the customers. Stop promoting managers who have no people skills because you are more focused on sale skills.
