I worked at Teck Resources full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Pays well
    - If you like taking long uninterrupted vacations, the opportunities exists
    - if you make it to management, you can become entrenched.

    Cons

    - There is a lot of talk about safety first, but the actions don't always back up that talk
    - entrenched bureaucracy and incompetent management
    - Most employees are disengaged and if they are enthusiastic, the environment beats it out of them
    - work/life balanced ultimately sucked. 60% of my life is spent at a remote location away from friends and family? Take me out back and put me out of my misery.

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive salary. Somewhat progressive in promoting work/life balance. If you enjoy the outdoors the locations are terrific.
