I have been working at Teen Challenge full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

interaction with fun, upbeat, teen girls,
    wonderful, down-to-earth boss and supervisor
volunteers who spoil staff and the students
experience working with challenges that most do not encounter on an average day

    Cons

long hours without more than a half an hour break
very high turnover of students and staff
pay was below average and not enough for someone to support family on

    Advice to Management

Management was terrific and spoiled the team and students with their own income. Corporate was mainly in charge of rules/regulations, so the decisions would be handed down by corporate, and often times not agreed upon with director's input.

I worked at Teen Challenge (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teen Challenge offers hope to those in need due to life controlling issues. The company helps men and woman become self sufficient in daily life. They offered growth opportunity while training.

    Cons

Very demanding job dealing with individuals that struggle with life contrilling issues. Limited advancement in each town burt many centers if willing to relocate. Mostly hiring within.

    Advice to Management

To have more employees so the demands of the job can be dispersed among the staff. More networking in the community to get volunteers to help.

    Cons

    Pros

Very good mission. Excellent neighborhood in Brooklyn. The staff was kind. There were a lot of people to help. Well known organization.

    Cons

A lot. Staff underpaid and undertrained. Food very poor quality. Housing and office buildings were in poor condition. No one got to know the neighbors. Most people just remain on campus.

    Advice to Management

Have staff with real world buisness experience come in and train other staff. If money is not coming in through the donors, apply for grants.

I worked at Teen Challenge full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a great opportunity to work with people in need. It is a good venue to learn time management and teamwork. They are good about providing support for staff during trying personal experiences. Time off is available for extenuating circumstances, and staff receive a 1-2 week vacation each year depending on seniority. Training takes place continuously as needed for all employees. Teen Challenge makes sure that all staff participate in continuing education and personal development in all areas.

    Cons

The organization is usually stretched to the limit like most non-profits. Leadership is strong, and individuals are prepared for advancement through continuing education and personal growth workshops and seminars. Compensation is on a par with other non-profits doing similar work.
