I worked at Telecom Italia as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A big company with a great variety of opportunities because of employees diversity and market dominance. The company offers networking connections with almost every big player in the market. Rather peaceful environment for day-by-day tasks.

    Cons

Poor management of opportunities and conservative mentality. Because of that the working forces may be led to time consuming and useless misunderstandings and feuds, especially when in shortage of resources. It may eventually cause the overall failure of affected projects.

    Advice to Management

Support different ideas and lean more on the experimental attitude. Contrast hierarchical behaviour on any possible occasion. Ease the decisional making process by considering strategies suggested by the base along with those made up by the top (often derived from powerpoint documents only)

I have been working at Telecom Italia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of benefits you can rely on

    Cons

Salary is very low, consultants are more important than employers, if they take as a developer, you will not ever write code, the mails are more valuable and important than working, a lot of employees thinks they are like Gods but effectively they are good for nothing. They don't care if you work, the important is that you stay at your place even if you are web-surfing

    Advice to Management

Use more your inner factory and not take consultants for everything, give value to the inner potential.

I have been working at Telecom Italia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many new technologies and partners to deal with. A lot of parallel projects to follow. As a young professional, you have the possibility to rapidly increase your skills.

    Cons

The company is dealing with a strong crysis, and this is reducing employee's salaries and benefits. Work is poorly organised and planned. The average age is very high, and this is a problem when you deal with a lot of new technologies.

    Pros

it's somehow an innovative company, it is a big environment so offerts lots of things to learn, it shapes your character

    Cons

there are not many opportunities for high potential professionals, and higher management positions are often precluded to those starting from the base

    Advice to Management

they should better recognize talent and create a real meritocratic environment. I have met top managers who showed real attention to resources, while middle management is often not highly qualified

Renewing the human resources with young people capable of better understanding new services and new products. Be aware of OTT competitors

    Pros

    Very relaxed environment.
    Fairly interesting projects
    Good working hours flexibility

    Cons

Telecom has to keep a lot of not very useful and competitive people. Many activities have not excellent technical level. Sometimes it seems Telecom tries to find projects to keep people working, rather than searching for right people for its projects.
Not really competitive salary policy. Advancement in career depends most of all an how many years one spent working for the company.

    Advice to Management

Be more competitive, look for new technologies, for excellence and for new services.

    Pros

It' is a big company: offer averge salary with average work load with the benefits of a big company. You can organize your time between work and personal life. It offer average benefits. The total amount of the work is not so big.

    Cons

Careers are not linked to the amount and quality of work, but only with own social network. The company didn't have a clear future. The top manager got salary over the average level but their quaity is very very under the average level. At now the top management is all from the old company Telecom, but the better personal and better management is from the merged company TIM. The only interest of the actual management is got a lot of money until is possible and not the growth of the company.

    Advice to Management

The command chain and work flow chain are both too long. There are only few key people that have the quality, the title, the skill and are really working for the company, but they are not recognized.
