I have been working at Teledyne Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Standard benefits package: 10 days vacation, 401k match, etc

    Cons

Will go out of their way to screw you on a salary increase

Management expects you to do their job for them and on any given day usually won't know what you're working on

Expects you to use vacation hours for snow days, so long as they were able to open that day. Won't close until things have gotten too dangerous to go home.

    Advice to Management

    Quit.

I worked at Teledyne Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn , different technologies and types of products in one plant. Lots of interaction with vendors and customers.

    Cons

Work environment is not too good. Their technology is still back from the 60’s and 70’s and their products too. Very little product design and poorly managed.

    Advice to Management

They need to be less prepotent and narcissistic

I worked at Teledyne Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Teledyne though a large company is built up by smaller business units which allows them to have a smaller company feel at the lower levels of management and employee interaction. High technology company which invests in R&D and in it's people.

    Cons

As the company continue to grow through acquisition, there seems to be constant change and reorganizations and redirection of resources. Too much bureaucracy to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Trust the employees to make decisions, too many layer of oversight and risk aversion causes slow reaction times and lost opportunity.

I have been working at Teledyne Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome atmosphere, and great people. I've worked here 3 years and I'm still learning new things everyday. I've made some great friends and traveled all over meeting people in different cities and different countries that work in different industries with myriad product lines in dynamic fields. There is literally nothing you can't do at Teledyne if you're dedicated to excellence.

    Cons

If you're a rigid, doesn't-like-change kinda person, you will be miserable. One of the fascinating aspects of Teledyne is that it's always evolving, growing and assimilating new products, new companies and new industries into its portfolio. So our roles and our organizational structure is constantly changing as new positions are created and employees are constantly shifting around. So if you like new challenges, this is the place for you, but if you prefer a mundane, 9-to-5 job that is boring, but predictable, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose sight of the people. Technology is always innovating, but many of your best resources punch that clock day in and day out.

I worked at Teledyne Technologies full-time

    Pros

The people are absolutely what kept me going there. Lots of amazing personalities and very bright minds. I felt honored to work alongside most of my colleagues, and to support them in whatever way I could.

    Cons

Teledyne has fallen into a physical, psychological and strategic hole. Physically, the company does little to provide employees with the right equipment, software and resources to complete their tasks. The equipment/software is horrendously outdated and/or limited because the least amount of money was spent to get the job done. This is directly in line with their talent acquisition issues, as most institutions no longer teach or train using the equipment Teledyne has. Psychologically, management is fixated on what used to make them successful, and fail to see when something new displaces those old ways. Strategically, Teledyne consistently fails to anticipate the future, which then forces them to react or throw money at employees without bothering to hone in on the bigger problem.

    Advice to Management

Start foreseeing business/industry/societal trends and be proactive in making the appropriate changes to keep Teledyne as cutting edge as it used to be. Recognize that the "old school" way of thinking just doesn't cut it anymore, and shift decision making into a way that prevents the company from consistently being reactive.
