I have been working at Telefónica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good shifts
    - They accept recent graduates and even students.
    - Once you finish your shift you are off the hook.

    Cons

    - Training is provided by peers, zero formal training, thus you are as good as your peers, and can have big gaps of knowledge that your superiors expect you to know.
    - Salary is way below NOC averages.
    - Opportunities to grow in the company are almost non-existent.

    Advice to Management

    - Create a list of approved topics your NOC Analysts need to know, and create at least a basic training manual that newcomers can go by.

I worked at Telefónica full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fast paced environment, with great in-house talent! European management style with Spanish language as its core communication & methods. Aggressive sales goals with capped income possibilities for sales people.

Telefonica is an amazing environment for people that are willing to roll up their sleeves and work very hard! Great benefits package which includes vacation, medical, dental, short and long term disability for employees (paid by company).

    Cons

A perfect company does not exist. But maybe internal outdated legacy processes that are used today at Telefonica, mostly handicap employee's productivity.

Consider that your daily responsibilities will carry a burden of approximately 50% load, and this is due to legacy processes to do simple tasks. This is purely administrative load due to outdated internal systems.

    Advice to Management

Improvement on legacy manual processes (i.e. SIGMA) to more modern integrated solutions for sales, pre-sales and post sales will help paid employees be more productive.

HR at an executive level, can maybe be more engaging.

I have been working at Telefónica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Laid-back management style. As long as you do your job, no supervisors or managers will hassle you.
    - Flexible work schedule
    - Good team and work atmosphere for the most part. Even though it is almost impossible to keep a team together for longer than a few months due to the high turnover ratio.

    Cons

    - Management keeps filling positions through staffing agencies that offer ridiculously low salaries and no benefits. Then they wonder why employees leave weeks after they are hired.

    - No room for advancement unless you have been with the company for a few decades and are friends with someone in upper management. It usually comes down to who you know, as opposed to what you know.

    - No incentives at all

    - Very limited hands on experience to be gained

    - Severe lack of leadership

    - Management does not seem to value education nor do they provide any kind of assistance with tuition or certification costs

    Advice to Management

Start taking care of your employees at all levels. Stop contracting through staffing agencies, it is demoralizing and it happens to be the main reason for the incredibly high turnover ratio. Promotions should be based on knowledge, education and/or skills instead of seniority and hook ups at the management level.

    Pros

There is very good talent within the organization. Management levels are basically groomed employees from Spain main office in Europe, to take care of short and long term agenda and keep American operations in-line.

Needless to say, Spanish language is dominant lingo. No such thing as open door policy, more like a one way door policy.

Base pay scales for Sales are descent, with poorly structured commissions designed to cap income. Unrealistic targets with stale services. Other pay scales for permanent in-house positions are just ok, they are approx. 20% less than market equivalent.

Base pay scales for Presales Engineers are ok, approx 35% less than market equivalent. Presales teams are drowned with administrative and financial matters daily matters. Ratio of engineering vs administrative work is 30/70. Mostly due to outdated internal legacy systems.

Where Telefonica fails in pay, they do a decent job in fully paid benefits package to include Medical, Dental, short and long term disability pay.

    Cons

HQ in Spain focuses in relocating personnel from withing Europe (Spain) to fill the positions in Miami via VISA procedures.

USA operations go through the formalities of announcing job positions that quietly get filled by ... yes you guest it!

The ratio of permanent full time employees versus what they call externals is 80/20 approx. (70-80% Spaniards / South American relocation from Telefonica subsidiaries (e.g. Chile, Argentina, Brazil, etc.) and 20% externals which are essentially subcontractors with inferior pay scales and benefits to maintain labor headcounts low.

    Growth opportunity, very limited.
Training, very limited or close to none.
Job tools, very limited and controlled by outdated systems from Spain.
Order processes - very complex and outdated
HR is monitored by a body from Spain which is very hands off

    Advice to Management

Get more local talent... and eliminate exploits of external contracted employees with inferior pay and benefits for USA. Invest in ENGLISH language training!!!
