I have been working at Telstra full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A lot of autonomy, and with that responsibility. The push to be the best. Team work, trusting staff to deliver, and being trusted. It was a great challenge and a great place to work.

    Cons

Until the merger... No trust from the new management team, a divide the staff into separate groups, teamwork is frowned upon. Micro-management by stay at home managers.

    Advice to Management

Local management needs to show up for work, and participate in the work experience.

    Pros

    -flexible schedules, easy work/life balance
-you do meet a lot of great people
    -deadlines for work are manageable
-great exposure, especially to international business and corporate events
    -opportunity for travel and promotion
-nice perks like free food & drinks
-benefits are good, but HR has a hard time explaining them/helping you
-you learn as you go in most cases there is no formal training

    Cons

-even though you work with a lot of great people, there are still office politics that can be very distracting and unnecessary to the work, not everyone is as nice as they seem
-micromanaging is a huge con here, even managers who aren't yours do it you start to feel like you are under a microscope
-lots of road blocks from upper management/exec team which stunts growth and opportunity for the company & employees
-you'll find some really hard workers at this company and then you'll find people who know how to take advantage of them
-HR ultimately just processes your paycheck, they have the companies best interests not the employees
-they thrive on their Future Ways of Working like working from home and better technology, but not everyone gets those perks and the computers/phones are very outdated for a telco company.

    Advice to Management

-management should come into the office more regardless of location and home life. This will give them a better understanding of the office environment and what happens on a day to day basis. This would also probably help with the excessive amount of micromanaging
-retain and appreciate the hard workers you have in an industry like this it's hard to come by

I worked at Telstra full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance. The almost laid back lifestyle is rare on Wall St.
Small team, so good team spirit.

    Cons

Acquiring talent from other competitors instead of building entry level talent on their own

    Advice to Management

If you want the US business, hiring only US sales is not enough. You need to go further in localization.
