I worked at Telstra full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good workplace technology to help with managing flexibility and different work arrangements, ie. job share and work from home Incumbent player with lots of opportunities and can work with cutting edge tech

    Cons

Organisation is constantly undergoing restructure and management / leadership team is constantly changing roles like playing musical chairs. Not effective and no one makes decision, let alone good ones. Nothing sticks - good effort or change doesn't take traction and doesn't stick with constant management reshuffle

    Advice to Management

Focus on the strategy and give strategy and projects time to mature and deliver results before you change again

I worked at Telstra full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible and supportive of healthy work life balance Depth of talent, experience and resourcing Shift to Agile ways of working almost complete

    Cons

Rolling rounds of restructures and redundancies has led to shifting priorities, projects that stop and start or are handed over mid-stream, and a lack a consistent focus for individuals and teams Changes have given way to acceptance of wide gaps in salary, experience and individual contribution across the same band of roles, at all levels

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, awesome technology, large projects

    Cons

Lack of any coherent management. They waste so many millions of dollars on projects they don’t implement. The default position when management is failing is to restructure them (just move them around to different positions) then make people redundant. They’ve done this so many times, only the terrible staff remain waiting fir redundancy. All the good people have left. I can’t see Telstra remaining as a company much longer.

I have been working at Telstra for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work Life balance can be great but very manager dependant.

    Cons

Contstant restructures, and cuts. Heavy processes slowing everything down. More of an insourcing company now. Their grad program to me use to be amazing and now I find it very dissappointing.

    Advice to Management

Stablize yourselves and your structure. Pick something and please be good at it.

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people to work with, decent budgets. Good salary if you negotiate well on entry

    Cons

Ridiculous amounts of politics, poor company culture driven from the top, significant number of restructures driven by cost cutting and politics have left many divisions with not enough people to do the work and others with too many. Toxic environment.

    Advice to Management

Give the people the opportunity to provide candid feedback and you may be surprised to learn what’s happening below exec level
