I have been working at Tempe Elementary School District part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you can afford to lolly-jolly your way into life and love kids, go ahead. This is a really good opportunity to see a glimpse of a teacher's life

    Cons

I have met teachers who does not do their job, and by that, I mean. sitting in one corner of the room and on their phones most of the time while the kids do whatever they want. Also, I have heard countless employees complaining about their job! really demotivated me to be a part of the district. :(

    Advice to Management

Please select your staff well. Sure, we have shortage of teachers but really, you need to thoroughly select your teachers! One teacher was explaining to me what I needed to do for the day and she made a comment "dont worry about (a particular kid), he's a moron." WHAT?!?!

I worked at Tempe Elementary School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are great and the district really try to advocate for the teachers. They have a lot of resources and try to pay you for trainings when they can. It is also a district that will try to promote from within so there's opportunity if you're qualified.
The trainings are excellent and very easy transition as a new teacher.

    Cons

You do end up working very long hours. You definitely work more than 40 hours a week. You have great resources but that's because they budget for it so it's one of the lower paying salary districts for teachers.

    Advice to Management

Keep trying to provide as much time for the teachers!

I worked at Tempe Elementary School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of trainings to keep teachers up on the latest trends. Teachers get to borrow a MacBook Pro and take home even over the summer. "1/2 day Fridays" (although that's when a lot of the trainings take place). Parents are happy.

    Cons

Leadership styles vary by school, which is expected, but that can make or break your decision to stay. Lots of focus on test-scores.

    Advice to Management

At times there are too many trainings that start to become repetitive.

    Pros

Varied responsibilities that allow you to grow as a person and have a daily challenge. Ownership of responsibilities to perform the way that works best for you.

    Cons

Limited room to grow in administration. Pay doesn't match the amount of work taken on but it's a school district so it's not surprising.

    Pros

Excellent school district to work for as a school psychologist with monthly professional development, great camaraderie with colleagues, wide variety of testing supplies, school-based offices, laptop computers with excellent IT support, state of the art crisis intervention services, intern program, and comprehensive service delivery system.

    Cons

Many school psychologists have worked for the Tempe Elementary School District; however, sometimes leaving TD3 has been for reasons that the district could not control such as a partner's transfer of employment out of state.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

the different departments are great. School employees like teachers, principals, custodians, even students, was a great experience to work with. Helping maintain schools was a good feeling also.

    Cons

The only negative thing I could think of was, really no raises for individual achievement or merit. The whole district, meaning faculty to painters got the same raise at the same time, if the budget allowed it'
