I have been working at Tenet Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent salary in nursing management

    Cons

No support from A-Team. CNO to CEO have their head in the clouds. Demand more from their nurse leaders than can be accomplished. Not enough resources

    Advice to Management

    Same as above

I have been working at Tenet Healthcare (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ambulatory care as a whole is an enjoyable field because of quality of life attributes.

    Cons

Management states that because of positive quality of life attributes in this field we should expect that we wil be paid less than RNs in other fields.

    Advice to Management

Review market wages & give cost of living differential so employees can afford to live where they work.

I have been working at Tenet Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers truly do care about providing a good experience for patients and members. Extracurricular team-building activities are sponsored throughout the year.

    Cons

Minimal PTO accrual in first two years. Vision for the company is unclear to staff. Business model is reactive. When problems become apparent at the department level, HR is not responsive. Overall lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

Any top-down communication is better than being left in a vacuum, but when you open a topic with staff, be sure to follow up later on.

I have been working at Tenet Healthcare as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a large company with a professional environment. Some departments are better run than others.. A young consultant can learn a lot from working in this environment. Folks are usually friendly, but eventually some employees can become vindictive due to lack of direction.

    Cons

Overall, this is lack of clear vision for how the company is to move forward. There are entire departments that exist because either they support an archaic software to support a process "that has always been done this way" but is decades behind the industry, or other departments have no "leaders" who do not lead but kind of live on their own island of thoughts that result in favoritism and inventing unfruitful work for the sake of staying busy.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your VPs actually run their own departments because in many cases, some senior leaders are busy in their own little worlds not actually caring for what is happening beneath them resulting in wasteful budgets, to say the least. Take direction from above. If lower management thinks its being innovative then make sure that department is not bloating due to a vacuum in your leadership direction.

I have been working at Tenet Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large organization with locations around the country. Offer the latest technology to draw great employed doctors. Benefits and pay is very competitive.

    Cons

As managers, Tenet has blurred lines in its organizational charts to help understand who is truly the decision maker (administration or high priced employed physician) - these "blurred lines" remove the focus on its patients from thier mission and purpose in the community
Individual Hospitals work in silos from each other in regional markets, many local hospitals fight for the same market share by providing same high dollar specialtis rather than pooling this strengths and reducing costs

    Advice to Management

Tenet is known for advancing it's own management into executive positions, especially if ones are from Tenet Leadership Academy, which is great. But, if Tenet wants to break the cycle of barely hitting the shareholder's expectations, you should allow more outside hires to help challenge the culture and chanel Tenet's Reputation.

Excellent rapport with physicians and case management make things easier to get through the system. Physicians are open to educational opportunities.

    Cons

Older system and conservative administration makes it hard to think outside the box to make needed changes to outdated and worn out policies.

    Advice to Management

Be open to new ideas and create a culture that celebrates employees.
