I have been working at Tenet Healthcare full-time

    Pros

The front line staff are very skilled and genuinely care about what they do.

    Cons

The company is out of touch with markets and employees. There is no professional development or succession planning. Administration is clique, and if they don't like someone, they will gossip about the person at meetings and then squeeze the person until they quit. The company has had to settle several multi-hundred million dollar lawsuits recently due to fraud and mismanagement, yet the corporate administration is still in place. The work environment is unhealthy, both physically and mentally.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanagement. Allow and empower your management teams to do what they were hired for. Cut budgets before people as they are your most valuable resource. Stop the insincere employee recognition, and start treating people well.

I worked at Tenet Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good resources on company sites to help find answers.

    Cons

Benefits and PTO accrual are poor compared to other hospitals. Seems as if patient care might vary from facility to facilty, but the hospital I was at profit came before patient care and employee satisfaction. Typical big corporation that employees get lost in and are rarely recognized or rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Show some more engagement and support with employees. Nurses are overworked because of understaffed units, yet this is not addressed. SO frustrating. Promote a positive image of patient care and nursing. Each hospital needs to be closely monitored by corporate to maintain patient safety and ethics, as well as administration assessments. I worked in a facility that promoted a negative culture and I wish corporate would have intervened.

Management states that because of positive quality of life attributes in this field we should expect that we wil be paid less than RNs in other fields.

    Advice to Management

Review market wages & give cost of living differential so employees can afford to live where they work.

I have been working at Tenet Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers truly do care about providing a good experience for patients and members. Extracurricular team-building activities are sponsored throughout the year.

    Cons

Minimal PTO accrual in first two years. Vision for the company is unclear to staff. Business model is reactive. When problems become apparent at the department level, HR is not responsive. Overall lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

Any top-down communication is better than being left in a vacuum, but when you open a topic with staff, be sure to follow up later on.

Great infrastructure and support. Great leadership and guidance. Has strategic vision and mechanisms to reach goals consistent with the over corporate goals to use at the market level

    Cons

TPR still growing and working out operational kinks. Gets better with each year. Not many negatives. This is a company that needs hungry self starters so if you can do that, you are good.
