I worked at Tennant (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most people are great, made a lot of friends. Hours are good, OT is occasionally available. Easy drive from most metro locations.

    Cons

Company has changed a lot in the last few years, unfortunately not a positive change. Was a lot more employee friendly in the past.

    Advice to Management

Remember the values from the past. Bring back the cohesiveness of the family-driven company and happier employees. Happy people work harder!

I worked at Tennant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture and people that work at Tennant are wonderful

    Cons

The corporate sales goals were reached at the expense of a huge layoff. Then they turned around and started hiring again. Unethical....

    Advice to Management

Get your heads together and do things in an organized manner and not shoot from the hip.

I have been working at Tennant full-time

    Pros

the location off hwy 100 is the only pro I have

    Cons

low pay, bad benefits, they are not generous with vacation, unprofessional managers, a very disorganized department

    Advice to Management

Hire more forward thinking people and treat them with kindness and respect, instead of flooding your company with Temps. and relatives of current employees.

I worked at Tennant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Tennant has a lot of potential to grow and become a great organization but it is impeded by illogical, incompetent "In the box" type thinkers who don't see the bigger picture. Yes, you may have a monopoly on the market in North America but you will never gain a larger world market until you hire good people who understand how to get there who don't subscribe to kissing someone's behind just to get ahead corporately. Much of the culture has great people but are managed by poor leadership!

    Cons

The company has too many "Cavemen and women" in their business who cannot appreciate a difference than following the status quo. Much of management don't enforce standards and basic business principles and practices but believe that with no accountability nor professional development of supervision and hourly employees is a remedy for success. The business loves hiring people who do not understand the numbers and are easily influenced by some successes but not overall wins.

    Advice to Management

Sell the business to a company who is not afraid to make a bold improvement to improve production and supply chain process to support growth. The "Clowns' running the business run it like a "Mom and Pop" store afraid to do anything outside of the norm. I was interview by the company years ago and due to what I was told was "Racial" bigotry from the recruiter wasn't hired. After hired because he spoke of change I knew I made a mistake and glad I left the organization. Run if they try to hire you as this is not a progressive organization as they tout to be!

I have been working at Tennant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

New senior management team is open and transparent. A breath of fresh air. I would recommend this company to anyone.

    Cons

When a company is trying to breakthrough to $1 billion company, it can be a little clunky. But employees are encouraged to help work through these things.

I worked at Tennant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Industry leader in their space. Long history of success. Have been crushing the competition over the years. Lots of good people at the Individual Contributor and first line manager level.

    Cons

I was shocked at the competency of SOME of the senior leaders. At the director level and above their are a few people who only out of shear luck made it to work wearing matching shoes every day and who wouldn't know an industry leading best practice if it hit them in the face. For many of them the only reason they achieved the level they did was because they were with the company for 20+ years and they eventually got their bosses job. Tennant either promotes straight up or brings folks in from the outside. If you want to make a cross departmental move...good luck. Because at Tennant you couldn't possibly lead a team that you weren't a member of first. And from a political standpoint don't trust anyone. I have never been somewhere where people had so many hidden agendas and literally acted like they were at war with each other. Sales vs. Service vs. Marketing vs. Operations vs. Engineering. Nobody is on the same team. Everyone is looking out for themselves. Turnover is high among people who haven't been there forever and have the talent to work elsewhere. HR is absolute garbage (minus 1 or 2 and you know who you are:) )

Tennant has been an Industry Leader for a long time but they got complacent and didn't make the process / technology improvements they should have when they should have and now they are playing catch up. They will be passed up by the competition.

    Advice to Management

    They wouldn't listen anyway.

I worked at Tennant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy Job when orders are low, relaxed environment, paid break and lunch total of 30 mins, good job to stay in good physical condition.

    Cons

On second shift the building gets pretty hot in the summer.
They run very loud machines throughout the entire production floor throughout the day.
Use chemicals in daily production that are known to cause cancer.
Use of industrial spray paint on the assembly line is common practice.

    Advice to Management

Recommend process improvements to ensure higher quality levels. Need to improve standards for quality of product.

    Pros

Not working in a service van

    Cons

    Working in a device van
Micromanaged, keep hiring more office personnel but complain about the bottom line
No longer focus on customer needs
Commercial product line is poorly designed and does not hold up to the rigors customers demand

    Advice to Management

Remember that you collect a paycheck because of the hardwork from the employees in the field. Stop trying to justify the poor decisions you keep making by enforcing pointless and unproductive rules and regulations
