I worked at Tennessee Department of Correction full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - You gain security experience that you will not get anywhere else. - Pay is better than some security jobs

    Cons

    - The some inmates aren't as much trouble as some of the staff. Some people are only there to pick up a paycheck, and it shows. - Staff management. Prepare to work your pod extremely understaffed. Employees consistently call out without warning with no repercussion from senior management. - Incredible employee turnover.

I worked at Tennessee Department of Correction full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The only silver lining to this job is that you can make your own schedule as a probation officer.

    Cons

The pay is shameful. Its one of the lowest paid corrections departments in the nation. They fill top leadership positions with people who have little experience. The office I came from promoted the worst employees because they had a "good relationship" with other members of management. The workload is unreal because the turnover rate is so high.

    Advice to Management

    Quit.
