    Pros

Good, smart people. Decent (but shrinking) benefits. Challenging, interesting work. Free parking.

    Cons

Everything is geared toward outsourcing. Highly non-agile development system, as a result.
Trying to play catch-up to modern software system, but in the meantime lots of obsolete code is complicating development and holding the product back.

    Advice to Management

Start caring about your employees again or you will lose them as the economy continues to heat up. With the extreme complexity of the systems, their experience will be hard to replace.

    Pros

I worked there as an Engineering Co-Op. For the most part I enjoyed the people.

    Cons

I was generally bored with my assignments and found them to be dry and repetitive. From my perspective the company seemed to have a silo mentality where there was not a lot of transparency (or at least publicity) about what went on in other departments. I frequently ran out of work to do which was frustrating because I genuinely prefer staying busy.

    Advice to Management

Keep people informed about current events in the company and the things that different departments are working on.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

A CMMI Level 3 development organization with a sophisticated project management capability. Generally very stable senior management that communicates business priorities and works hard to ensure staff alignment.

    Cons

There's a lot of entrenchment with most senior people having been there for 15+ years. Strong emphasis on fault-elimination drives the organization to focus on defects and problems, leaving not much time for creativity or invention.

    Advice to Management

The management is generally risk-averse, but has some big blind spots where wishful thinking takes over. Analysis paralysis is a very real risk. So is driving employees too hard with unrealistic expectations for productivity.

I have been working at Teradyne (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, No cut throat competition among employees

    Cons

Easy to grow sluggish and outdated here, need a lot of self drive to keep learning new things

    Advice to Management

Open up to new software technology. More efforts needed to smoothen & encourage cross team interaction and knowledge sharing.

I have been working at Teradyne (More than a year)

    Pros

Well established company with stable future and good product which is necessary for current market (especially when "cloud" is taking of)

    Cons

A lot of outsourcing instead of internal design and development, which makes company less flexible. Multi level management leading to longer solution time frame and resolving issues.

I worked at Teradyne full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Bleeding edge technology
Not just a SW company and not just a HW company
Good co-workers who care about what they do and want their project to succeed
Benefits were excellent - no deductible on at least one of the package
No bonus but did have profit sharing
Employee Stock Purchase Plan -15% as I recall - stock now pays a dividend because they have so much cash

    Cons

    Poor management in the mid-tier
I had good and bad managers while at Teradyne (like most companies)
One manager was useless - he wasn't a mentor...he didn't lead. I don't think he ever had a single thought that was his own. He was a follower. I never felt like he was in my corner - I couldn't trust him
I also had great managers....well one. This guy had my back. It was a tough program. Lots of challenges and it felt great when we finished.

    Advice to Management

Are there some groups that seem to have a revolving door where employees are constantly turning over?
Are there some groups where some employees who have always received glowing reviews then all of a sudden get poor reviews when they move to a particular new group?
Do your middle managers and supervisors have the respect of their employees?

    I worked at Teradyne full-time

    Pros

Benefits were great at the time. I'm not sure they still have the same benefits available.

    Cons

There were lay-offs and outsourcing of jobs every quarter for years. Morale was affected.
