I worked at Teradyne full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of bright people willing to help and share their expertise.

    Cons

Most roles in the company are highly technical. Outside of areas like HR and Accounting, you will need some technical knowledge (electronics, EE degree).

    Pros

A CMMI Level 3 development organization with a sophisticated project management capability. Generally very stable senior management that communicates business priorities and works hard to ensure staff alignment.

    Cons

There's a lot of entrenchment with most senior people having been there for 15+ years. Strong emphasis on fault-elimination drives the organization to focus on defects and problems, leaving not much time for creativity or invention.

    Advice to Management

The management is generally risk-averse, but has some big blind spots where wishful thinking takes over. Analysis paralysis is a very real risk. So is driving employees too hard with unrealistic expectations for productivity.

I worked at Teradyne full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits and pay are good.

    Cons

No growth for entry level / junior engineers. More concern with project progress than engineer personal progress. If you're not a mid-senior engineer, you are treated with a great amount of disrespect from other engineers/management. Poor software engineering management practices. Management is poor.

    Advice to Management

Management really needs to learn how to treat the younger engineers. When starting a young career, they should be doing more than what they were taught in the first course in college. Not getting the general human respect and lack of growth makes leaving the company a good idea. Management also needs to work on the development practices. Different team members follow different practices while working on the same project.

I have been working at Teradyne full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company as a whole seems very solid.
Even though it is spread between multiple locations, almost all of the employees are well versed with working on teams from multiple offices.
The company operates by using long-established processes, this provides a structured framework which can be followed over multiple projects.
The company has numerous career-long employees.

    Cons

Due to multiple offices, working on a team which is based in a different office takes extra efforts to communicate well.
The company's long-established processes require a fair amount of learning and effort to be able to make it through a design cycle.

    Advice to Management

It seems that more new employees should be brought on so that they can learn company knowledge before a large number of long-time employees begin to retire.

    Cons

No modern tools to help do the job efficiently. No formal training of any kind. No career development plan, reviews are a joke and no one takes them seriously.

    Advice to Management
