    Advice to Management

next time you want to accuse a tech of not doing a stop maybe you should talk to them first and not jump to firing them. Maybe their truck wasn't near the stop. Maybe it was because they had carpooled with another tech and stopped and did he stop in he other techs truck!!!! Maybe before you accuse them of not doing their job you should actually go to the stops and talk to be ONSITE manager not the maintenance guy who floats around to 9-12 different properties. Maybe you could go pull gate codes at those accts to verify yes the tech was here and there he is on camera. Did you do that? Nope and you openly admitted it to me you didn't. Maybe you should accuse someone of falsifying hours when they use a handheld to check in and out. The handheld tracks the hours. Maybe when you shouldn't tell employees that while they are driving they are not on the clock. Guess what, that is illegal and labor and industries agrees. no where in the handbook is it mandated you work 8 hrs a day. The guideline is you are done working for the day when you have finish all your services. Yup they used that as part of firing me, "failure to work company mandated 8hrs work day". There is no such thing. As a matter of fact the service manager even told me that the region manager is a big proponent of a 8 hr work day. There would be zero reason for him to feel that way if it was mandatory!!!!

    Pros

None at all None at all None at all None at all None at all None at all None at all None at all None at all

    Cons

Everything is bad about that place it is for people that have no idea how the pest control industry works. They mold you into the slave they want you to be. Long hours, sorry pay, you never know when you will go home if you have 12 jobs and get done early they will add more and work your behind until sunset. All they preach in the meetings is work work work and make more money for them while taking money from your pockets for every cancellation. By the time it is pay day you end up with base salary. Some people been making $1800 a month since they started about 25 years ago and have to bust their behind to make commission which is affected by your cancellations they are a billion dollar company that doesn't care about their employees. Even when you are done with the route you still have to go home and make phone calls so you are never really done with work. And every week you must try to collect payments from a long list of people that owe and if you don't collect from them it counts as a cancellation then you can kiss your commission goodbye. DO NOT WORK THERE! The only reason why they are still in business is because they buy out other pest control companies and take money from them while giving them the sorriest service. They don't even give you the right amount of chemicals to do your job and you have to use the minimum amount to get thru the 2 weeks which results in poor customer service and tons of call backs that you have to schedule yourself. And last when it's time to get a check they mess it up every time and you can't even contact hr because nobody knows who hr is everything is done by passing it on from one person to another until it gets to whoever decides to get it right.

I worked at Terminix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get a nice truck. Seriously the only positive part when I worked there.

    Cons

I'm not sure where to start. Everything in the company is set up to blame the technician. If anyone within the company doesn't do their job the blame will fall on the tech. The company constantly finds ways to decrease pay. Terminix comes out with a new pay plan every two years and it's a pay cut every time. The hours are insane, you have day from 7am- 7 or 8pm. They're the only company in the industry that has technicians on the road that late. Terminix sells pest control over the phone. The salesmen don't receive charge backs if anyone cancels. The salesman or saleswomen tell new customers to cancel after their bugs are gone. The technician has to pay the money out of his check and the salesperson gets paid for a full year of the commission. I'm going be honest, I can't believe there isn't a class action lawsuit against them for unethical payroll deductions. It's only a matter of time before the right person decides to Pursue it. One of the biggest cons of working at Terminix is the horrible health insurance. My kids have health problems and they were being denied basic claims that used to be covered. Terminix is a self insured company, they charge you an arm and a leg to get insurance and the deductibles are so high and you will constantly get denied and have to jump through hoops. It's not good insurance for a family. You are also required to sit at night and call customers who owe money to the company. You are not compensated for this in any way. Once the customer does not pay their bill, the money will come out of your check. The sad part is the company will resell the same customer pest control again and the cycle repeats and you will pay out of your check again when the customer doesn't pay. The sad part about all of this: The company thinks this is normal. They think it's normal for you to work ungodly hours and receive little compensation. This is the worst place to work in residential pest control hands down. Your head will spin with disbelief of what's expected of you. You have to navigate through a sea of ways they monitor you throughout the day and you can't focus on the actual job. It's an insane amount of conflicting rules that all contradict one another.

    Advice to Management

Stop giving annual pay cuts. Stop blaming technicians for the company's problems that you created. Start holding other employees (call center, salespeople) accountable for the chaos they create for the techs. You have taken a simple job and turned it into rocket science with the 20 things you monitor and worry about. Technicians have way too much on their plates and can't focus on doing actual pest control. Stop the micromanagement and treat techs like adults and with respect. Stop giving customers so much control over tech's schedules. Other companies are structured and they do just fine. Customers at terminix are given too much control and they get carried away with it. You've created a nightmare with the way this has been handled. You're a billion dollar company, act like it. Structure is key. Customers will comply if you don't give them the option. Terminix customers are trained from the day the account is sold that they can: not pay their bill, constantly move their services, tell technicians how to do the service. None of these things are happening anywhere else in the industry. When you don't back your technicians and let the customer control all aspects of the service, and allow the rest of the company (call center and sales) do not do their job it creates an impossible job for the tech. One last thing, stop with the impossible time windows. No other company is putting regular services in mandatory time windows. You know why? Cause it's not safe to drive around looking at the clock trying to race against an impossible schedule. Regular services unless they're confirmed should not be limited to two hour windows. It's creating an unsafe driving atmosphere. Stop spending so much time watching technicians and spend that time on training them how to kill bugs! Remember that part of the job? Most techs don't. They're too worried about the 100 things you have them doing other than killing bugs.
