    Advice to Management

Some staff are lazy like everywhere, but this makes the hardworkers jobs harder.

I have been working at Tesco part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Tesco has been one of the warmest companies I have ever worked for. They are open about their business practices and everyone has a chance to go as far as they wish, providing they put the time investment in. Benefits (mainly the employee savings card after six months service) are outstanding and can save you a fortune when coupled with a decent wage after the probation period.

    Cons

So far, the only con is the lower wage during the probationary period, however, once your clear of this the savings you can make via the company card and the wage increase is more than what most companies offer. It is more of an investment time than a negative point, but worth mentioning.

    Advice to Management

Management styles are a little too relaxed, but this is not a bad thing either, it's just more noticeable if you take a step back and think in the shoes of the ideology of a colleague from head office.

I have been working at Tesco part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Employee discount is good.
Flexible hours of Dotcom suit me.
    Manager is understanding.
Working when the shop is closed to pubic is great.
    Not a difficult job.
    People are decent.

    Cons

Customers that have unreasonable expectations and having to deal with them when their expectation isn't met.
Judged on performance even when the shop is busy resulting in the dotcom picking trip being longer.
    Trolleys can get heavy.
Picking heavy items can be exhausting.
Job can be boring and repetitive.

    Advice to Management

Take into account that the job is harder when there are more people in the store. Wider aisles would help.

I worked at Tesco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A real meritocracy - people from all backgrounds have risen to the top. People and culture are invested in and there are opportunities to work across all areas of the business in the UK and Internationally. If you put in the work and you are good you will do well at Tesco.

    Cons

To get on you have to be flexible - you won't always have control over what and where your next job is. Some parts of the organisation still had quite an aggressive culture at the time I worked there, which may not suit some.

    Advice to Management

Keep pressing the cultural changes made since Dave Lewis took over but don't lose sight of the excitement and innovation that made Tesco great in the first place. It is culture, not control which will ensure that the right behaviours are demonstrated.
