I have been working at Tesla as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Exciting projects, variable difficulties, variable topics. You will learn alot. Definitely better than working at some company where you'll have boring days and don't know what to do with your life. At Tesla, you're making an impact.
    - Interesting people, most of whom I met were helpful and always happy/excited
    - Suppliers respond fast, as they're excited to work with Tesla, and they know if they are too slow, they can be dropped.
    - Room for growth, change, improvement, etc. The slight startup vibe makes things happen quickly.
    - If things need to get done, they need to get done. There was a new shuttle service when I joined, and people weren't allowed to transport their parts from HQ to factory. Too many complaints, and engineers were restricted from getting their work done. Management immediately got on it, and made the change happen.
    - Open environment, everyone is approachable. You even see Elon once in a while
    - Free drinks, full times can check out Tesla's for the night/weekend, free cereal.
    - Company sponsored outings/happy hours.

    Cons

    - Addictive. Everyone works hard, and you'll feel like you should too. You can get carried away and become a workaholic, so just be careful.
-Slow email responses internally, but follow up and they should respond, everyone is just so busy.

I worked at Tesla as an intern

    Pros

Great work and team culture, challenging projects, helpful co-workers, world class mentoring, can learn a lot in a very short time

    Cons

Hectic (not stressful if you love what you are working on)

    Advice to Management

Hire more entry level engineers and maybe less interns

I worked at Tesla full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extremely smart & kind employees who care about the company mission. Opportunities for promotion and growth. Ability to change positions / change teams if your current situation is not ideal. Priority Model 3 reservation.

    Cons

-Employees overworked: manufacturing teams working 60-80 hour weeks during Model 3 launch with no extra compensation or appreciation
    -Mediocre pay
-15 days of PTO (including sick days) no matter how long you’ve been at the company
    -No 401k matching
-Ambiguous job descriptions: no goal setting, no milestones for success. Everyone is expected to know exactly how to do their job without any guidance
-Insane expectations from leadership: impossible timelines, impossible workloads. When these are not met, the employee gets blamed (thrown under the bus) and the manager doesn’t take responsibility.
-Employees are disposable. Fired with no warning after years of employment due to “performance issues” and offered negligible severance.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees. They will all leave if you treat them as disposable.

I worked at Tesla full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

HR offers great programs (Health/Wellness challenges)

    Cons

    - Management plays favorites. There are unqualified people currently being promoted purely based on who they know and KISS AS rather than being based on experience/knowledge
    - No KISS AS = NO pay raises even input 110% work, not appreciated
    -No work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

    You will get your karma.

I worked at Tesla as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's really evident that people love their work and will do whatever it takes to get it done. Some people will happily work until 7 or 8 pm every day.

Communication is really unique at Tesla, and for a company of its size, there's a culture of free communication. As an intern, I would email and talk to senior managers and everything, if that was the right person to talk to.

Interns can be anything from people working on some really deep R&D Projects to just another full time employee.

    Cons

The offices are very crowded, and sometimes resources are limited

The work is very long, without some benefits of some of the other big companies in Palo Alto.

    Advice to Management

Management does a fantastic job. Most teams have picked really good groups of people. However, a lot of managers are very busy and often do not have available time to handle concerns of some individuals.
