I have been working at Tesoro Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tesoro is one of San Antonio's best kept secret. I have worked here for a few years now and it has grown substantually. It is a great company with solid benefits and pay not to mention a great campus. The company is changing and the culture is also changing for the positive. One of the best things I like about the company is the senior leadership and their goal to be the best and drive a high performing culture. If you want a place where you can work and bring yourself to work everyday then this is the place for you. The message coming down is the company needs leaders and is asking people to step up because the company is growing.

    Cons

This is unique to everyone, the con is a positive and has to do with the extensive growth that the company has gone through. There is a lot of change and those that join the company need to be ok with change.

    Advice to Management

Tesoro does so many great things in the community and people really dont hear about it. It would be great to showcase what is done as it is exciting to see as it brings more pride to the employees.

    Pros

    - Awesome pay
    - Awesome benefits
    - Awesome opportuntities
    - Awesome coworkers
    - Awesome schedule

The Los Angeles refinery has some of the most interesting people you'll ever meet. The refinery is really one of the last "good ol" manufacturing jobs where you get paid a not just a living but a saving wage that will boost your net worth. As an added bonus the place has a lot of different departments so you can bounce around and spend a whole career learning new stuff.

The oil industry has fantastic 401k, pension, and insurance benefits that pretty much no other industry can match.

    - Hourly guys - love 'em, hate 'em, gotta work with 'em. They're a fantastic bunch, but they like to let you know they're the only ones that can turn valves and get things done. So sometimes you gotta stroke a little to get a little but you can't help but love them. They keep it real, will tell you how it is, and have some crazy stories.

    Cons

    - Really slow decision making. It's a big place so it takes the machine some time to churn before work gets done. Plus most decisions are +$1M so everyone wants to be right.

    - Lack of accountability - its a big place so there is plenty of room to hide if you want to put life on cruse control.

    - It takes forever to get stuff done. Just submit your idea to the work order or projects machine, let it churn for a year or two and then you idea may come back out.

    Advice to Management

Crack the whip, drop the hammer of accountability and get this place movin! Some of us want to work and make big things happen! Bulldoze the roadblocks for us! This place has tons of smart people, but its gotten soft.
