I have been working at Texas Department of Criminal Justice full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, mostly weekday hours

    Cons

No room for promotions, they don’t care about the offenders only getting off reports. The offenders run the whole state and expect you to cater to their every need

I worked at Texas Department of Criminal Justice full-time

    Pros

Overtime is pretty good money! Benefits are great. 4on 4 off so it's alot of time off!

    Cons

Overtime is mandatory, prisons are far far farrrr away, hours are crazy some days. The uppers make you feel like a convict even when you are always following policy. Your coworkers are sometimes (okay most times) worse than the actual offenders.

I worked at Texas Department of Criminal Justice full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Insurance, PTO, the experience on your resume

    Cons

Fellow coworkers are worse than the offenders, rank will cover their butt even if it means getting you in serious trouble, the gossip is worse than high school, as a female you have to prove yourself 100 times more capable and your men coworkers still treat you like you’re below them bc they’re allowed to.

I worked at Texas Department of Criminal Justice full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent benefits. Time off can be nice (when you get it).

    Cons

Some officers are a higher threat to you than offenders. Consistently trying to undermine you at every turn. Rank doesn’t care about you unless they like you. Want time off? Put in for it 90 days in advance. Horrible treatment of offenders. Yes I understand who they are but be consistent and professional. Don’t escalate situations to where matters get worse.

I worked at Texas Department of Criminal Justice full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nothing pro to say about this place

    Cons

The sergeant and Lieutenant are horrible, they talk to you like you in white. They give the offenders more values, credits, and respect than the officers. And the co-workers are horrible as well
