Pros
Positive work environment, great people to work with, they offer free training to employees who wish to gain more experience, and they promote from within the agency.
Cons
Salaries are on the low side for the time commitments, management is pretty flexible, and approachable with dates for requesting vacation, and the salary increases seem to be slightly above the inflation rate for staff that stays in their current position year after year.

standard state agency, great place to learn
May 8, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I came to the Department with knowledge and experience in one area of insurance, and in working here, was able to learn about many other lines of insurance and all the legal stuff that goes along with it. Decent training opportunities--and there is a lot of variety as to what you can do at the agency. The pay and benefits were decent, at least for someone like me with several years experience but who wasn't managerial. The people were great.
Cons
The focus was always on the numbers, at times at the expense of the quality or without being sufficiently staffed. Standard red tape and bureaucratic process found in any state or governmental agency makes change a slow process. Not all departments are on the same page or on par with each other, you have to find a department within which you can work efficiently and effectively.
