Horribly boring. Gross fluorescent lights. The elevators and always breaking and there is a story every month of someone else getting stuck in the elevator.

Great company to work for!
Jul 11, 2022 - Insurance Specialist II in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Friendly coworkers, easy going atmosphere, casual dress, decent benefits, flexible schedule, hybrid work from home schedule, having your own office for the times you need to be in office. 401K, pension.
Cons
We should be given the option to Work from Home 100% of the time or do a Hybrid work schedule. The pay is on the lower end for this position as well as other positions within TDI. You don't get performance review or cost of living raises, (which would greatly help ease the burden of the constantly rising prices of everything we need everyday, esp'ly gas).

Pros
Positive work environment, great people to work with, they offer free training to employees who wish to gain more experience, and they promote from within the agency.
Cons
Salaries are on the low side for the time commitments, management is pretty flexible, and approachable with dates for requesting vacation, and the salary increases seem to be slightly above the inflation rate for staff that stays in their current position year after year.

One of the worst jobs I have ever had
Mar 7, 2022 - Attorney in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Free health insurance is available, and time off is ok, you get off state holidays.
Cons
Very high turnover- 43% in one department. Legal has very high turnover rate with constant vacancies. Legal department is poorly run with lots of yelling and accusations. You will not be treated as an adult professional. Lot of fragile egos in management and managers who are emotionally volatile under stress. Do not work here-the salary is low compared to other state agencies and the toxicity is too high. If you are fat, legal probably won't hire you anyway.

Pros
Pros- lots of time off--state holidays. Do not require overtime as it's not in the state budget. Very slow paced.
Cons
Terrible management with no experience in business. Bully and threatening management style.

Excellent work culture and environment
Apr 18, 2018 - Administrative Assistant IV in Angleton, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have been working for TDI as a Temp Contractor for 5 months now. The team work is the best I have seen in my work history in probably the last 30 years. Everyone is considerate of each other , respectful, and they help each other because they care, not because they feel they have to. Although I don't have vacation pay to be able to take off when needed, right off the bat the Windstorm Manager told me to make sure and let him if I needed to take time off at any time and he mentioned to others right after I started to consider I might need days off as well. The team leader leads positively by example. He encourages the new comers and trainee inspectors. The inspectors all work well together and it is obvious that having such a positive encouraging office culture is one of the motivators for employees. The admin I work with enjoys engaging everyone and helps in any way she can. Although my contract will be ending with no opportunity at this point for permanent employment I would definitely work here if presented the opportunity. I was able to learn a great deal in a short time and was also given the chance to work remotely for another site while stationed at another office.
Cons
I honestly can't think of any. Where it became extremely very busy with phone calls and inspection requests that is just part of the job and to some during a disaster this might be considered a con. For me, it was an excellent example ofllent example ofllent example of being able to learn a lot in a short time.
