One of my best jobs ever despite the low salary.

      Pros

There is great room for growth for those who don't want to be stagnant. The health benefits are the best that I have seen amongst the public sector. Position is a training ground to provide you more marketable if you choose to move to other fields. You obtain investigative, interviewing, and criticial thinking techniques amongst others. A very rewarding experience working here.

      Cons

There can be a heavy caseload and mandatory overtime dependent upon your location. This can be an advantage for some, but it posed a problem for some single parents.

      Pros

Nice people for the most part, every job has the rotten apples. There is an effort to make sure that you know what you are doing in training. Afterwards, if there is still confusion (there will be in some areas) most employees and supervisors are kind and will help you repeatedly until you have something down.

      Cons

Not sure what it is like in 2021, but in 2019, if you valued your time outside of work this was not it. Plenty of mandatory overtime that is to be completed before/after shifts, or when offices are closed.

Stagnant Wages, No work/life balance, Poor Management,

      Pros

You can work from home in some divisions.

      Cons

Wages are stagnant- There has not been a cost of living adjustment since I have been here. I have been with this employer for more than 5 years. Management cannot competently address workflow; Mandatory overtime for more than a year and a half. Constant cost-cutting. Everyone is cross trained and has more responsibility but wages have remained the same. Bonuses were eliminated several years ago. Offices are constantly consolidated. I was moved to a home office in a neighboring city with a month's notice. Unprofessional environment. Behavior that would result in termination in the public sector is tolerated. Especially among management. HR is inefficient. They take months to hire, even internally. Your HR rep is assigned to thousands of people, so they do not give you time or attention. No investment in employee growth. There are no employee opportunities to learn on the job due to workload. I was in the middle of Six Sigma training and it was postponed. It is now more than a year later and I have not resumed it due to business needs. Low trust environment. There is no open dialogue between management and the rank and file. Culture is secretive and prefers to keep employees in the dark. As a result, communication is poor and morale is low. Management wants feedback but never acts on it or ignores feedback it does not want to hear.

      Pros

403b, company paid insurance premium for employee only, standard hours of operation m-f 8-5. 403b, company paid insurance premium for employee only, standard hours of operation m-f 8-5

      Cons

Low wages, limited opportunity for advancement. Excessive mandatory overtime. Inconsistent with practices across the board to accurately perform job duties, not a great place to retire given the constant increase to cost of living, job evaluations performed but do not determine pay increase- pay increase are rare and across the board for state employees you may receive a merit increase but these are rare and depends on if someone likes you (I’ve received them) and if funding is available. Great job for someone who just wants to get out the house but has a partner who is the main bread winner!

      Pros

Healthcare, bonuses, merit raises, co workers, etc..

      Cons

Mandatory overtime is a drag especially when we have to work on Saturdays. Seems like policy changes often so it's a lot of information to retain.

      Pros

Health benefits, PTO, and that’s pretty much it.

      Cons

Mandatory overtime has not stopped in a year. I feel like my body is saying no more because I am constantly tired and my stats are being affected. You are always called on what’s wrong rather than what’s right. Also tons of work and not enough pay. Will be looking for something I can enjoy soon because my body is shutting down due to the amount of hours we have to work.
