I worked at Texas Roadhouse part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun work environment, flexible scheduling, I didn't have any real issues getting my schedule set up for college classes. Good job for party people.

Unlike a lot of restaurants, payroll isn't an issue, and there is health insurance available. Management is competent, facilities stay clean, safety practices are comparable to other well run workplaces, equipment stays well maintained and breakdowns are minimal, sexual harassment problems are well controlled, and most of the horror stories of the restaurant industry are not present. It's a Fortune 500 operation and it shows. Minimal yelling in the kitchen during peak times, professionalism is good.

    Cons

Pay not even remotely competitive with completely unskilled factory and warehouse work. Local WALMART was beating our average pay.

Work is grueling and destructive to the body, though you'll need several years there to feel it. Usually takes out the knees. Lots of burns, of course. I've dealt with worse in factories, but not by much, and not for such poor money.

The best people who show up to work with you will soon leave over the bad pay. You might see 30k a year if you make it to management, but most of our management track people had to move to other stores to get their opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Not much advice to give. Problems are endemic to the restaurant industry and the narrow profit margins of retail. Might want to stop angering your FOH management and assistant management people. That seemed to be a huge problem. Just not mine.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great food and great atmosphere. Everyone was fun to work with. We did line dances at our store, it was annoying when busy but the guests loved it. Training program was legit. Took training very seriously. Management cared about their jobs.

    Cons

Little favoritism but nothing major if you work hard. The rolls. You will gain weight because the rolls are basically crack! And that honey butter!

    Advice to Management

Utilize colleges near you. Some have hospitality majors and will be more invested in the company.
