I have been working at Texas Roadhouse full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been with this company for almost 9 years now, I started as a host back in high school and over the years have worked several other positions. It’s great for college students due to flexible hours and making a good amount of money as well as possible opportunities to move up. They like to promote within, several servers and kitchen staff have worked hard and are now salary managers.

    Cons

Like every job it isn’t perfect. However most locations have a very low employee turnover, which is typically not very common for the restaurant industry.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Your coworkers are great, and you will make friends here. The money can be decent, especially on weekends.

    Cons

Horrible FOH management. They will punish you if your sales aren't high enough, especially during gift card season. If you don't sell enough gift cards, you will be put in a 2 table section and have to clean someone else's section in addition to your own. The management will treat you like you're being lazy even if you're trying really hard to make sales. It honestly feels like hazing at some points. This happens during the rest of the year as well, but with the sales of smothers, margarita kickers, apps, and potato loads. They even went to the point of not letting us ring in margaritas without kickers, which makes a lot of guests angry, and there's really no point to it. While the server can make an impact on sales, it is ultimately the guest's decision if they want to buy a gift card or a food upsell, and there are times when they just don't want to buy anything extra. Speaking of guests, the management doesn't care about them at all. They refuse to go by a table that has an issue unless they specifically ask for a manager. You also don't get breaks when working doubles, and have to pay for your lunch, despite throwing away hundreds of dollars worth of food every day. To put the icing on the cake, the restaurant is absolutely filthy, to the point that I honestly don't understand how they passed health inspection.

    Advice to Management

Stop punishing people over gift cards. Reward people who do have high sales, but cut it out with the "we will make your work life miserable if you don't meet your quota" insanity. Stop focusing on the bottom line, and work towards improving the guest's overall dining experience. Lastly, enforce higher sanitation and food quality standards.
