I worked at Texas Tech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits; CME allowance excellent; Great humanism; Respect to all employees of different cultures, races, & religions.

    Cons

Low Salary; no on call pay for midlevels in El Paso. Had to do hospital rounds after hours & lived in 50 miles away. Long drive home; was never offered relocation money or bonuses. Minimal support staff, MAS, Ortho tech.

    Advice to Management

El Paso/ University Medical is the only LEVEL 1 HOSPITAL for 300 mile radius including TX, Southern NM, WBAMC FORT BLISS & Juarez, Mexico. Resources are limited & surgeons & midlevels who serve them should be better compensated or these positions will never be filled. The US Army orthopaedic residents are an integral part of our residency program & their education is dependent upon enough resources via Faculty & staff.

    Pros

Good job for el paso area. State benefits are great as well. Pace of work is slow and calm it that is your style.

    Cons

Poor management with no leadership. Very ignorant coworkers. Made up up very old minded people. Lack of education and professionalism at all levels.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at who your leaders are and what they have really done for your campus before promoting them for toughing it out the longest.
