0 author support from team leaders
Feb 27, 2023 - Freelancer Writer in Phoenix, AZRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Direct order clients are gems.
Cons
Team leaders do not support writers and do not provide clear instructions. On at least 2 occasions I have gotten back an order for revision because the instructions changed after the first round of orders was published. There's no recourse for authors; you either rewrite or you have to cancel to avoid having a reject on your author profile. When this happened previously and I complained to author support, I was suddenly booted from several teams. Obviously I can't prove any sort of retaliation, but as I had gotten several positive reviews from those same teams, the whole thing seemed very fishy.

Textbroker 2022
Oct 11, 2022 - Freelance Writer in East Orange, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Flexibility. Bonuses for finishing assignments, positive feedback with minimal revision requests leads to higher star ranking which pays more. Can be placed on a team if client wants to only work with their favorite writers. You have the opportunity to level up to Q&A work after passing an assessment test on Textbroker.
Cons
You can be level 4 or 5 and be dropped to 2 depending on your overall writing score. You can no longer accept an assignment, cancel it, and then accept it again to give yourself more time past the deadline. Also, you will receive a warning about plagiarism if wording is too much alike to an existing article even if the article was written by you. You can’t use your past articles as a sample to put in a writing portfolio. Once you send them to the client they're gone.

Pros
Even just a year ago, I would've said at least there's enough work available. That is no longer the case.
Cons
Literally everything. Clients are allowed to treat writers like dirt. Pay might as well be in dirt. Some staff are unprofessional when interacting with writers.

Change Not for the Better

They pay their writers for work completed.
Cons
When I started with Textbroker sometime in 2008, it was relatively new. There were some interesting articles to write on a variety of subjects. The management at that time was very nice and accommodating, Writing was more of a hobby since I was still in the throes of my career at the time. There were many years when I wrote nothing at all because I was too busy. When I retired in 2017, I began to write more, but it was more difficult to find articles I cared to write. Most were concerned with SEO to achieve top Google ranking, and the content the clients usually wanted was certainly not something I'd even be interested in reading, let alone writing, I noticed that Textbroker management had started to get more involved with the writers, making it more of an employee relationship than a contractual relationship. I didn't care for the management at all in these later years. (It's unfortunate that Glass Door's options are only current or former employee, as I am a former contracted writer with them, not a former employee as are all writers on the site). They seemed to have gotten paranoid that legitimate US writers were not in the US, and I started to see many complaints in the forums about this issue. They had a way of turning it around to answer these writers by telling them they were concerned for the writers' security. That made no sense to me. From what many said, they had been writers for Textbroker for several years when their accounts were suddenly blocked with freezes on payments owed them with this issue being the excuse. When they changed their payment platform from PayPal to Payoneer, it was about the last straw for me, and I wrote very little after that transition. I finally decided there was no sense having a dormant account, so I closed it, If someone asked me in the years between 2008 and 2010 whether I recommended Textbroker, I would have endorsed it as emphatically as I would have advised to steer clear of it when I left.
