I have been working at Textron Systems as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Period of growth in Electronic Systems
    Increasing in hiring
Experienced engineering middle-management in ES Team
New Projects and Bids on the Horizon

    Cons

Some culture issues - "Everybody should want to be the CEO someday"
More new product and new project development
Facilities and lab spaces are a bit overcrowded due to growth of new teams and projects (a symptom of a good problem)
Invest in good facilities. A good place to work starts with a good physical environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

Let engineers be engineers. If someone doesn't have dreams of management, a quality experienced technical professional or engineer is worth every bit as much as a middle-manager and lends to the knowledge base and experience of the company as a whole.

I have been working at Textron Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been here for 13 years and I have found that my experience here has been great. I have always been able to carve my own path and go where I wanted to be challenged. For the most part, management has worked with me to make these opportunities happen.

    Cons

The change of ownership from UIC to Textron in 2007 took away many of the perks to working here from the benefits side of the house. The feeling that the people that work here as a family has all but disappeared. It can feel as if you are just another number in the eyes of Textron.

    Advice to Management

The little things matter. Always keep a pulse on your employees and make them feel connected to the other here. (especially the ones that have dedicated their lives here) You shouldn't find out that an employee is frustrated, burned-out or exhausted in their job at the exit interview.

I have been working at Textron Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Textron Systems gives you solid opportunities to move around the company and try out different business units and/or product lines. There are also a ton of different people that you can work with on a daily basis, exposing you to different sectors of the business. Upper management tends to be very knowledgeable for the most part.

    Cons

It can be a bit difficult to move up within the company. There are a lot of people in line for the next big promotion, so there is certainly a fair amount of competition. Work can also be a bit repetitive, depending on what your role is.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities for growth within the company.

I have been working at Textron Systems as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity with great coworkers. Products are interesting, and employees are all motivated and like to do things the right way. Interns are given opportunities to do actual work, and function as a regular employee. Interns are also given many career resources including opportunities to network with individuals in Textron Systems and other Textron business units, and resume clinics.

    Cons

As an intern working on a project that was in very early design stages found myself lacking work many days, and not being able to contribute too much. Minor lack in internal communication, sometimes felt like I was doing research on what we have done in the recent past.

    Advice to Management

Keep interns on more established efforts, or efforts where they are needed. Better documentation, and information on what information from the past is available.

I have been working at Textron Systems as an intern

    Pros

At Textron I am given many opportunities to both improve my skills and learn new ones. Every intern is working on something different, which I think is interesting. Everyone that works here is very welcoming and willing to help me get involved with the team.

    Cons

The company is very large, so it can get overwhelming at times especially in the beginning.
